ABOUT

Have played guitar (acoustic & electric) for 20+ years as a hobby along with drums. Always for fun, never received any formal training in music theory and cannot read sheet music. Took some guitar lessons at a younger age with the intent of learning to read music but wasn’t fun for me so I resorted back to doing what I’ve always done which is look up guitar tabs for certain songs I want to learn to play, but that has evolved into being familiar enough with chords, different tunings, etc. to write some of my own music. I’ve always been determined to figure out certain song intros/solos that I think are cool and will stick with it til I’ve got it down.

I’ve recorded many loops (on my simple loop station, and have only dabbled with Garage Band). I have a pretty vast library of really cool loops and song clips that I’ve wrote but they are incomplete songs, and lyric writing is a struggle. Would love to sync up with someone that could elaborate on the loops/clips and construct some full songs.

Today I pick up my acoustic guitar several times a week to play for fun, no real intention of writing music when I do just play til I get tired of it and if I think of something new and cool, I’ll record a clip on my iPhone so I can come back to it later, maybe put some lyrics to it on the go as I play them back (usually while driving down the road).

Influences

Tom Delonge (all bands of his, all records), Third Eye Blind (all records), Jimmy Eat World (all records), Pete Yorn (all records), Jon Foreman/Switchfoot, Jack Johnson, Ryan Adams, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Pinback, Years Around the Sun, Rogue Wave, Stars, Bombay Bicycle Club, Vampire Weekend, Chris Carrabba (all bands), Juliana Theory, O.A.R., 311, The Band Camino, Phil Collins, Feeder, Oasis, Sublime, Weezer, The Cure.. and a LOT more.

I don’t listen to anything mainstream, and have always felt pretty disconnected with what is consider new and popular. When people ask what genre of music I just say mostly “Alternative/Indie” but that encompasses way too much to even make sense. I love music with a melody, hard guitar riff, groovy drum beat, and/or acoustic guitar mixed with electronic accents.

I’ve always been heavily influenced by the Southern California culture more than anything making it hard to find people in upstate South Carolina with the same cultural and musical influences.
