ABOUT

ZenDrummer looking ultimately to start a tribute band - thinking Genesis right now, but I'm open to certain others or to play originals. I have lots of experience from my days as an acoustic drummer and hand percussionist, but I have chosen to give that up in favor of something that fits my playing (and lifestyle) a bit better (see below).

Influences

Influences from all genres: Jazz/Fusion (Chick Corea, Jeff Lorber, Herbie Hancock), Funk (AWB, EW&F), Pop/Rock (Maroon5, Dave Matthews, Billy Joel), Progressive (Toto, Genesis, Rush, Yes), Instrumental Rock (CAB, Steve Morse, Jeff Beck), Classic/Hair (AC/DC, Def Leppard, Journey, Billy Squire). I would describe my favorites as having the complexity and sophistication of jazz, the energy of rock, and the (charm?) of pop. Toto, Genesis and Steely Dan are all great examples.

EQUIPMENT

ZenDrum electronic drum triggers, BFD3 virtual acoustic drums, Roland V-Drum TD-8 module, Behringer FCB1010 pedals, Simmons DA200s e-drum monitor, VST Host loaded with virtual instruments and effects. I have a huge library of drums, and am very comfortable playing and controlling them. Not exactly conventional, but I am ready to make it work and get back out on the stage. I also have a studio which works great for rehearsing and recording.

If you are not familiar with ZenDrums, they are midi triggers worn like a guitar. These are not toys - there are plenty of working musicians out there using these. The originator, Roy Wooten plays them with Bela Fleck.
