Hi,

My name is Vince McNeil and I am the music director for 54: The Musical, a Temple University production for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. Our production is well underway; however, we are lacking a multitude of musicians necessary to complete our orchestration.

Let me start off by saying this is a completely volunteer effort. I am looking for pianists, guitarists, drummers, saxophonists, flautists, trumpeters, and violinists. All other brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments can easily be incorporated into the show's score and would be welcomed openly.

If you would like some more information:

54 is a drama set to rock music which chronicles the livelihood of an acting troupe in New York City from the late 60s into the mid-80s. The story focuses on people striving to be equals in a society that prevents them from doing so. There are tones of racism, and LGBT themes in this original book, score, and lyrics. The music in the show itself has a diverse feel to it. Some songs are jazzy, some have a waltz theme to them, others are more focused on a showtune feel.

This production is fresh to Philly Live Arts and if you participate, Philly Live Arts credit is a great acclamation to put onto your resume. You'll get to work with a great cast and band from a range of ages and multifaceted talents.

The music has been written by new composers and the music has been delivered in musical notation form as well as MIDIs for audiation. I know from prior experience with that bands working with musicals can create a great music experience. I believe that performance bands composed of various smaller bands and musicians are usually capable of working well with singers with various vocal talent and take instruction well due to the widespread levels of skills in the group and I must say, the experience was indubitably positive and a lot of fun.

Band rehearsals are held in South Jersey and Philadelphia on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Tech rehearsals with the cast would also be a mandatory time period required for participation. Tech rehearsals and performances will be located at the Methodist Church on Arch St. near Center City, Philadelphia.
