ABOUT

I started in middle school and high school playing percussion and marching band, and then in my teens and twenties played drums in a handful of bands that really didn't make much traction. I then took a long time off while I was focusing on family and career stuff. I'm picking up guitar and bass and trying to learn them now. I had some guitar lessons in college that really didn't stick because I didn't have time to devote to it then. I'm basically just looking to learn bass and guitar as a hobby, and thought it would be cool to keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities to play with others. I'm married with 2 kids, and so I have limited time to devote to joining a serious band. But the occasional jam session or little side project kind of thing, or something where the goal is to record some stuff and put it online could be fun.

Influences

I don't know if it's fair to list influences on my nascent guitar/bass skills as I'm just starting. for drums, I've always loved Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience), Brad Wilk (RatM), Chad Smith (RHCP). Favorite bands/artists (besides the 3 I just listed) include but are not limited to:
Gorillaz, Portugal. The Man, the pillows, Primus, Daft Punk, Kurt Vile, White Stripes/Jack White, the Strokes, Black Keys, the Breeders, Beck, Emancipator, Vulfpeck, The Kills, Mark Mulcahy, Jim Guthrie, STP, The Coup... plenty of others I'm not thinking of.

Some recent groups I've just started to kinda listen to:
Hermanos Gutierrez, Allah-Las, Causa Sui, Khruangbin
