ABOUT

I recently started playing with a 60's tribute band. We are looking for a lead guitarist and a keyboard player ... Sax or brass or harmonica gets bonus points. (Search here for "SixtiesRock") I am nose-to-the-grindstone learning the 100ish songs that the guitarist, drummer, and percussionist - all of whom sing lead and backing - already have down. If you love classic 60s tunes with great, well executed harmonies, from bands like The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Elvis, Nancy Sinatra, The Kinks, etc - plus some great, fun one hit wonders like "Bend Me, Shape Me", "Time Won't Let Me", and "Little Bit 'O Soul", message me here or shoot a note to my g mail acct which is tkduggan. We are dedicated to playing the songs as close to the recorded version as possible and do almost no improv. We plan to play out 3 or 4 times a month at casinos and choice bars/clubs.

Once I get the songs referenced above into maintenance-mode and I'm not slammed learning tunes, I will be open to other opportunities. I'm over half the way there at the moment, so that will likely be late April 2024.

I'm a bass player by trade, but can play serviceable rhythm guitar and simple leads.. I'd be into forming a cover band focused on Power Pop and Pop Punk or '80s alt/college rock (REM, Hoodoo Gurus, English Beat, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, etc). I want to play stuff that rocks, has great melody, and gets people moving. Any project has to be secondary to the 60s band above.

Influences

I'm a pop and power pop junky. Everything from The Beatles and The Who to modern pop-punk. Some bands that were really important to me are Jellyfish, Crowded House/Neil Finn, and Dada. I love a well written song. I love a song that rocks. I played out for 6 years during the 90s and loved playing STP, Screaming Trees, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and all of the Grunge scene. Bands I love (in no particular order) Cracker, Toad, Violent Femmes, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Brendan Benson, The Racanteurs, Bad Religion, U2, Semisonic, Squeeze, Green Day, Cake, Sugar, Matthew Sweet, Tinted Windows (look them up!), Petty, Teenage Fanclub, Owsley....I'll just stop here. I love good, well written songs.

While I appreciate the talent of jam bands like the Dead, Widespread, Phish, etc ... the 15 minute song is sooo not my jam (pun intended). I love playing a well-crafted, rocking 3 minute, catchy song with harmonies. If the lyrics are quirky or smart, extra points.
