Wanted: Rock guitarist who can sing and write great songs but hit a wall at some point and needs to re-imagine. You’re over 40 now, but you won’t leave this club quietly. If you met another songwriter it would double your chances of that band being noticed. It could even be a phenomenon like Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles or…um…The Beatles.
I’m in the same situation. I’m 54 and play keys, guitar, sing and write songs. My big mistake was constantly recording and not playing live enough. After 25 years I have top ten songs sitting here gathering dust that no one has heard.
My piano stuff is Elton and Billy, hold the cheese. When I stand up to play guitar, I go from Captain Fantastic to Captain Crunch. Lyrically is where I’m most confident. Darkness always cracked by a beam of light. Universal themes of hope and fear.
It’s all about the song, not genre. Though, I’m a rocker to the core.
We’re old enough to not squabble, to put the song first, and we have the resources to get our gear up and humming. It’s showtime.
