A Decade of Metal

Above you will find a collection of songs from five different bands and projects that reflect about the last decade or so of my playing. To add some flavor, Iâ??ve included some classic vintage solo scraps from the archives as well, dating back to nearly 3000 B.C.

The Breakdown

HOME
is actually a hidden solo track found on the Amethyst Fallen EP. An all-acoustic trio from San Francisco, AF captures what I consider not only some of my best playing, but an opportunity to write and record using my acoustic six string.
Other songs from Amethyst Fallen include:
ONE MORE EXCUSE
STUCK WITH THIS
LONGEST ROAD

LAMBS
SWAMP
MASK
are three tunes from the Mudslinger record 'cover the sun.'
Tuned down to G, 'cover the sun' was the perfect offering to quench the thirst of Lord Slog.
BLACK SABBATH
is also performed by Mudslinger and appears on a tribute compilation titled 'Hail to the Stonehenge Gods' released by WWIII Records. This track has a sick solo section - check it! (05:10)

ENGULFING HORDE
BUTCHERED
UNIT 731
DEPOPULATE
appear on the Vile album 'Depopulate'

LEVIATHAN
INTO THE DEPTHS
60 SECONDS OF SHRED
SKYLER AUTUMN
are solo pieces using my Zon six string and were a part of a 'Highlights' tape I prepared to accompany my fingerstyle technique book 'The Philosophy of Bass' when submitting it to publishers.

DREAMS
remains unfinished and was with a project called World Wide Sickness.

TAKIN' MY TIME
is that even the name of the song? Iâ??m not sure.
This project called Hail Mary Jane was spawned by legendary Bay Area guitarist Scott Sargeant.

The Philosophy of Bass

Completed in the early 90â??s â??The Philosophy of Bassâ?? was a monumental accomplishment. Compiling techniques, materials and curriculum I had been using for years as a full time student and teacher, this book successfully captures my overall approach to both playing and learning.

Beginning with a complete and unambiguous music theory review which is directly applied to the instrument 'The Philosophy of Bass' examines:

· Interval Relationships
· Triads
· Chord Construction
· Substitutions & Chord Relationships
· Key Signatures
· Modes
· Major Scale Harmony
· Harmonic Minor Harmony
· Melodic Minor Harmony
· Diminished & Whole Tone Harmony
· Blues & Pentatonic Scales

My review is not only thorough, but also understandable even to the neophyte, and the perfect reference tool for all.

The book then continues into its core material, my fingerstyle technique and the development, use and addition of the third and fourth fingers of the picking hand.

Developing my fingerstyle will give the player the capability to pick more effectively and accurately, resulting in more control, speed and efficiency in oneâ??s playing style.
This technique will dramatically expand the musicianâ??s flexibility and creativity, enabling the bassist to do things that would otherwise be impossible.

With almost 150 pages and over 400 scale shapes and patterns â??The Philosophy of Bassâ?? was written with the intention of providing a learning companion for life.
