Marvin Belton, once vocalist and songwriter with Detroit based band Psychedelic Funkification Project (PSYFUNK), continues to make his mark on the music scene. Marvin’s association with PSYFUNK (1996 thru 1999) resulted in the release of two albums FRESH DEAD FISH (released 1997) and PSYFUNK (released in 1999). During this time Marvin performed in many musical venues, such as, The Magic Bag (Ferndale MI), Lillie’s and Motor Lounge (Hamtramck), Arts, Beats & Eats (Pontiac, MI) and the 1997 Toronto Music Conference in Canada, as well as, performing live on radio programs such as, The Mitch Albom Show and The Judy Adams Show.
In the fall of 2001, while attending a party in Windsor, Ontario, Marvin was introduced to Ferrispark Records label owner Scott Ferguson. The two enjoyed a bottle of single malt Scotch whiskey and participated in a philosophical conversation about music and other social matters. Ferguson invited Belton to the Ferrispark Studio to listen to his productions and talk more about Marvin’s future with Ferrispark Records. During this first visit to Highland Park, Marvin agreed to lend his writing and vocal skills to help expand the possibilities for the label. Belton’s first published work for Ferrispark Records was released in 2003, entitled “Bleed to be Free ep”. The record received positive attention in the electronic music world including reviews in industry recognized magazines such as URB and M8. Marvin’s second record was the 2005 release of “Any Day Now”. “Any Day Now” followed in the footsteps of “Bleed to be Free” being a beautifully written and performed vocal with an emotional and conscious theme. By 2006 the success of the records prompted Belton to join the Ferrispark Records European Tour.
Also during this time Belton was recording vocals for two other successful Detroit based record labels, Theo Parrish’s, Sound Signature and Tony Ollivera’s, Dynamite Soul. Marvin performed on Parrish’s song “Natually” as part of “The Rotating Assembly” and along side Miyon Bryant on “Back in the Middle”, penned by Monica Locket (aka DJ Genesis) for Dynamite Soul.
2007 brought about two new and exciting projects concerning Belton. The first is the release of a new vocal track on Spain’s Deep Explorer label. The song “Sweet is the Love” has had international success and carries on in the soulful house tradition.
Spring of 2008, teams up with James Thomas and Vincent Halliburton to form JOY OF SOUND PRODUCTIONS.
2009 Ferrispark Records re-issues FPR-006 "Bleed to Be Free".
