ABOUT

Joining an existing band is not my top priority, but read on and hit me up if I really might be a good fit. I'm just looking for a person/small group to swap ideas with- maybe we can start something from the ground up!

I've been playing guitar for eight years, and while I can't really shred, I'm good at rhythm (including tremolo picking), riffs, and melodies, and overall I can be pretty creative.

Writing has been important to me most of my life, and I write poetry/lyrics on and off.

In the past year, I started playing piano and I can read music very slowly. I'm also interested in singing but I haven't practiced much- people who have heard me think I have a nice voice though. I also really like the contrast of harsh and clean vocals.

I've taken a couple college courses for recording/mixing; I'm a beginner but very interested in these areas. I have some experience with Pro Tools and Garage Band, and am currently teaching myself Reaper as well as the use of various plugins and some MIDI programming.

Influences

Skeletonwitch, Metallica, Immortal, Gojira, Amon Amarth...

-Overall guitar sound, ranging from fast black metal chords to thrash/death riffs
and rhythm to slow- or mid-tempo headbangs.

Opeth, Tool, Alice In Chains, Cynic, Black Crown Initiate, The Ocean, Major Parkinson...

-Dissonance, modulation, dark ambiance, experimental nature, progressive structure,
contrast of harsh and clean vocals.

Alcest, Lantlôs...

-Melancholy, emotional melodies with purpose.

Little Dragon, Metric, David Maxim Micic...

-Mix of rich synthetic/electric tones with a traditional band lineup with "real" instruments.

Lastly, for lyrical works, my favorites include those of Emily Haines (Metric) for her cryptic, abstract ideas; Regina Spektor, Sixto Rodriguez, and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) for the stories they tell of people; and the works of Black Crown Initiate and Gojira for being more introspective and hypothetical.

It would also be nice to incorporate some other instruments such as strings or piano without the project being full-blown symphonic.
