Bass Guitar, Upright bass.ABOUT
Played actively (lead guitar, bass in a Jazz setting) mid-60s to late 70s. Have not played actively since. I'm looking for a free-form type band, mostly covers done in a unique style. That is, not a tribute band or situation where all/most songs are played note-for-note to someone else's version. In playing days, I successfully used an "own a song and put your own spin on it" model. Of course, I also recognize that there are a few songs that must be played as is, and a wise band will either do so or skip them. Hotel California comes to mind as an example: play it exactly or not at all. I would be willing to learn "a few" songs note for note in that manner.
I'd be willing to devote a couple nights a week to rehearsal and could play Friday/Saturday night gigs.

Influences
Traditional folk and blues artists generally. Robert Johnson, Sun Ra, etc. Jazz guitarists such as Kenny Burrell, Charlie Christian, etc. along with contemporary blues artists like Keb Mo, Jorma Kaukonen, Marcia Ball, Samantha Fish, Carolyn Wonderland, Buddy Guy, etc. I no longer read music (too many years ago) but my style tends to merge the folk I started with, Jazz/classical influences with a strong does of blues and a little vintage Soul feeling. (And yes, I'm out of practice working with others :(

EQUIPMENT
A few 6 string electric and acoustic guitars, all gig grade. Electric, acoustic and fretless basses, likewise gig grade. Hartke 350W bass with 1X15" (and 4X10" I can't lift alone); GK 500W bass with built in 2X12. Vintage Bassman 135 and 2X15 cab (need help with this one for sure).
Fender Super 210 (65W 2X10" combo), Ibanez 35W (tube) and 1X12". Vintage Ampeg Jet and a modern Fender SuperChamp SCXD. A couple vintage reverb units.
I have a fuzz, wah, echo, etc. but I was never much of a stomp box user so I haven't put much effort into organizing those I have. I also have somewhat what of a personal philosophy of not wanting to play songs where it takes 5 minutes between tunes to reset all the electronics, etc.
