ABOUT

I'm a very experienced bass player and backup singer who can sing some leads. I do studio work and live gigs, and I'm very comfortable in a band situation, pickup gig, or jam session. I write and have always been in bands with some mix of originals.

I really do like most kinds of music, but these days I love playing rock, r&b, country, roots, americana, blues. I do play upright, but I much prefer electric. I don't patiences for any project that isn't professional, or musicians who don't open their ears and listen. I like working hard to make a band gel and sound great, but I am a good hang and love to have fun when I play music. The hang is important to me!

I love to jam and have always been at home in improvisational settings.

Influences

I grew up on progrock like Rush, Yes, Crack The Sky, etc. I'm totally down with some old school funk and r&b. These days I'm much more into the roots/americana stuff, like Wilco. But I also have a harder side to me, and love bands like Dada. Groove + melody!

EQUIPMENT

I am totally into Fender Precisions these days, and my main basses are a 78 fretted P and 77 fretless P. I have various other Jazz and P basses, all of which serve their own purposes. I have an MTD 535 and a couple of old Warwick Thumbs (fretted and fretless), but I don't play them very much these days. I also have an 90's Englehardt upright. My big amp is a Mesa Engineering Subway D800+ and 2x10. Medium rig is a fantastic Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 that I wish you could still get! I have a nice little 40+ year old Polytone for the smaller gigs and jam sessions. A few guitars and other assorted gear that you probably don't care about. :D
