ABOUT

That can’t be his real name, right? In fact, that is his birth given name! Smiley started out like most engineers by playing in a band. He used to play keyboards in a prog band, PRYMARY (they’re an awesome band, you should check them out). It wasn’t until PRYMARY recorded their first album that Smiley found his niche in music, and fell in love with recording and the production side of music. Smiley’s lifetime education in music started at Cal State Long Beach where he received his bachelors degree in Music, and in October 2010 earning a Audio Engineering Degree from SAE in Hollywood. He is currently working as an engineer at Tommy Lee’s (Motley Crue) The Atrium Studio and interning for Richard Furch’s (Prince, Usher) MixHaus Studio. Over the years, Smiley has been fortunate enough to get hands on experience studying under Nancy Allen (Oingo Boingo), Chuck Mitchell (Voices of the Arts, Star Wars Episodes 1-3) and Derek Sherinian (Billy Idol, Dream Theater). Among artists Smiley has worked on projects with are James La Brie (Dream Theater), Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Redemption), Nick Van Dyk (Redemption), John Payne (ASIA), Eric Norlander (Rocket Scientist, ASIA), Donnie Vie (Enuff Z’ Nuff), Julien-K, Dead by Sunrise, Orgy, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Fleet Woodmac, and Steven Tyler. All the experience aside, his sound files will do the talking.
