Experienced bass-baritone country lead vocalist, capable of harmonies and parts, endorsed as a singer by people with long music & industry experience. Guitarist with very strong rhythm & fingerstyle chops, working on my lead & parts playing. If you don't have a premium account (I do) and you want to contact me, email me at [email protected].
I want to put together a band to start out gigging and develop over time into its own "thing." I'm planning on an "Americana," roots-rock sound with a lot of dynamic & emotional range: country music both old and new, hard rock, folk-rock, roots music, a dash of guitar noise... The (very rough) sample tracks on my page point towards the sound & style I want.
Shows would be mostly covers of classics & deep cuts, with some originals (bring yours, we can see about playing them) and crowd-pleasers for tips' sake. Bandmix edits out links, so to see my list of song ideas so far, paste this into your search bar after the Youtube web address: /playlist?list=PLch5V5zBSTCJexYeb-i8hhvTd_4kvVhYs
I want to rehearse often and learn new songs at a steady pace. I know my limitations as a musician and entertainer, and with your help I want to grow beyond them. I'm looking for people who want to outgrow their own limitations, who will bring musical ideas of their own, who communicate well and can take suggestions, and who listen as they play. How exactly it sounds will depend on the players, of course, but I'm looking for:
- Lead and textural musician(s). Keys or steel guitar would be best, but if you think your instrument(s) could fill out the sound I've described, be it saxophone or fiddle or guitar or something else, then send me an email.
- A bassist with chops to flex, who can play some theoretical stuff and chord outlines, and won't just hang onto the root notes. 5-string and fretless electric skills preferred, though not required - I love Les Claypool, Rory McFarlane, and Bob Boucher on various records.
- A drummer who holds it down, who keeps the pulse going even in the midst of a complex drum pattern. Ideally plays a little behind the beat and can work in roots-rock percussion (cowbell, tambourine, shaker, etc.). For examples, listen to "Broken Things" by Julie Miller, "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" by Lucinda Williams, and "Nevada Jukebox" by 60,000,000 Buffalo.
- Backing-vocal skills are greatly preferred. Other members are welcome to sing lead on some songs. I myself have a low voice, easy to harmonize over, and I can sing harmonies in that register and arrange them for the group.
- Any ability to play folk, percussion, electronic, noise, and "high-school band" instruments in addition to one of the above main instruments, even if you've just started or haven't picked it up in years, is also preferred. Never know when those will come in handy.
