Native from Bayamón city of the beautiful Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, Ángel Antonio has been making music since a young age. A compelling songwriter, he can elevate a song from something you like to a head-turner. His music delivers a new take on the island's current music industry, he gives people music for the soul and the mind while mixing the contagious catchyness of pop with the astonishing musical and vocal complexity of a Broadway show and the welcomed reminiscence for past 1980s rock gems. Every Ángel Antonio song has elements that look back in time musically, yet each one emotes such fresh energy and represents such a big step forward in the artist's career, that sometimes it’s easy to forget that he has been around the block for quite some time now.
As a child, Ángel Antonio learns to play the piano, but soon after he discovers his passion: the guitar. During his teenage years and young adulthood, the artist takes music classes in the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and the San Juan Public School of Music. Also, he becomes a member of the band Red Tiger. As vocalist, composer and lead guitarist of the group, Ángel Antonio records the band's first indie album, gains radio audience and plays in many importat venues of the island: The Arena Pier 10, Puerto Rico's Convention Center and The Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
In 2007 he decides to pursue a solo career and performs in clubs around the island and New York City. Not just a musician but an artist through and through, Ángel Antonio gets deeply involved with the on stage performances. As an university student of Foreign Languages, he soon becomes a member of the Musical Theater ensemble of the University of Puerto Rico and works hand in hand with prestigious playwright, Joseph Aguayo (R.I.P.). Ángel Antonio achieves leading roles in different musicals: Oklahoma!, Jesus Christ Superstar and Oliver, just to name a few. During this time, the young artist also composes and conducts a musical for children.
Committed to his live concert experience, Ángel Antonio draws public attention for both his solo acoustic sets and full band performances. During his first years as a soloist, he shared the stage with other prominent indie artists of Puerto Rico and became a constant on-call artist for indie events. In mid-2011, Ángel Antonio embarks on his first solo tour: El último espejo [The Last Mirror], a trilogy of live concerts. The first two legs were performed in Puerto Rico; the third and final leg is set to start in early 2012 and will take place in different venues of the United States of America.
The song Magia sobre mí, a taste of his upcoming album Ego Trip, marks the beginning of Ángel Antonio's solo recording sessions. A contemporary bubblegum pop-rock track seasoned with the pepper of the 1980s rock, the energy of the recorded single is not like anything captured before. With fresh music, witty lyrics and smart messages, Ego Trip is a collection of finely crafted, rock-flavored pop album produced and written exclusively by Ángel Antonio. While this indie album draws inspiration from the past, Ángel Antonio is looking to an exciting new era for his music.
His insatiable desire to call for action and innovate with green philosophies that improve our planet's sustainable development inspires him to build the first indie recording studio in Puerto Rico following the Earthship biotechture rubric; thus with his upcoming tour leg he plans to raise funds that will help him achieve his goal: music for the people, a building for Earth.
