Brandon Smith is a full-time resident drummer for ShadoArt Productions, Inc., a non-profit organization that operated Shadowbox Live, the nation’s largest resident theater company. This theater is where he started playing drums in the house band for the Saturday Night Live type sketch comedy shows and every Sunday played a Broadway style musical. Each show runs only 8 to 12 weeks with no time off between shows so the turnaround time to produce a new production is very demanding. In 2009, Brandon moved to Cincinnati for 2 years to continue working for Shadowbox Live playing drums at their sister theater while continuing to play the musicals in Columbus every Sunday. In 2011, Brandon and other players from Shadowbox Live played eight sold out shows at The Rife Center with BalletMet Columbus in an all original show called "7 Deadly Sins" for which he was a contributing writer. The next year Brandon was also a contributing writer for another original ballet, “The Masque”, which was based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. The music was performed live in October of 2012 without dance to showcase it’s potential to interested ballet companies. It gained interest from the Verb Ballet Company in Cleveland and will be performed there in November of 2013. The newest collaborative project is called “Gallery of Echoes”. This pairs Shadowbox Live with the Columbus Museum of Art and includes 22 hand-picked pieces of art with a song to represent each. A multimedia presentation which accompanies the original music redefines these works as more than their simple visual aesthetics. This work will be performed in many locations in The Greater Columbus Area during 2014. Brandon is currently one of the busiest drummers in the region playing over 300 shows a year for more than 80,000 audience members.
