Hey man,
It seems like most bands just aren’t that serious these days. The bass player’s girlfriend trumps his time and the singer’s always busy with nonsense. Finding serious band members in the real world is hard enough, so the internet listing thing should be easy. Just blast-mail all the bands with listings looking for drummers and ONE of them should hit, right? But that doesn’t work either. You message a band and they just don’t message you back… or, when they do, they flake out on your for weeks at a time before ever being able to set anything up. And nonsense like this just wastes your valuable time and increases frustration, because you want a real shot at making it before you're too old.
I’ve gone through all that myself. I was the singer and guitarist in a band, where I was the only one taking it seriously. I put in all the time and effort booking gigs, recording sessions and practice times, only to have them met with resistance.
So I decided to step back from the band and take some time to get my own musical ideas together. I’ve gone to conventions, from L.A. to Boston, and even enrolled in Berklee Music’s Online Songwriting Program, just to learn more about my craft as a songwriter and band mate.
I’m still continuing with this type of education and experience as I move forward.
Right now, I’m gigging as a solo acoustic act, which is going well, and I’ll continue to do that... BUT, I’m ready to get out there with a band behind me to continue to create powerful rock songs while showcasing them to people, with a fuller sound. I have a bass player, and with a committed and talented drummer to max-out our capabilities, I know we’re going to cover a LOT of ground in the music world. We’ll start out as a three-piece and as we network with other talented musicians along the way, we can add them to the group as well.
