Things I would like to know about you:

1. Your music/genre preferences/What you play
2. Your ability to work by way of mp3 exchange and recording. (I am very busy, and want to perform and write, but I have scarcely ever found “jamming” to be very productive in terms of composing.)
3. What do you want/what are your goals?
3. What is your level of familiarity with music theory?
4. How familiar are you with using counterpoint or contrapuntal motion among different voices in composing and song-writing?

If I answer these myself:

1. My music genre of preference? Something I haven’t heard yet before. Female vocalist with a strong chest voice (no opera please) with hard metal and progressive rock. Maybe like Tool but with really awesomely sexed guitar/bass solos incorporating some jazz elements or a random classical piano piece. It’s okay if the song is 9 minutes. The song should go until it feels done, but 4 minutes for a few to leave room for station playability even though streaming music is where it’s at. Intriguing chord progressions that are not boring. Unique progressive rock/metal feel for a majority of songs with MAYBE a few soft ballads- but not too many.
2. My ability to work from my home is preferential. Assembling every week to jam is very taxing and may not prove fruitful. It would only prove fruitful if we had plenty of songs to practice for gigging purposes. If you have a three hour song writing practice but didnt write anything legitimate, I feel as though time would be better spent at home learning how to hone your musical craft.
3. My level of music theory is stellar in some ways and sh*t in others. I have a terrible time reading music but I can identify chords, identify keys/key signature changes. I am extremely adapt at hearing polyrhythms- so much so that it is almost a drawback in identifying the main time signature. I love to sing the 7th over a chord which maybe sustains into something unexpected. I love phrygian half cadences. I prefer music of the Romantic Era of music... I am only a little sappy. The Romantic Era was where it started to incorporate GOOD weird sh*t before the weird fu*ked up sh*t and now it’s all about this mumble rap with these dang kids and their music and their pants. :)
4. I understood contrapuntal motion and favored it before I knew what it was. I remember listening to a piece by famous video game composer Nobuo Uematsu, and I enjoyed the layering of the orchestral rhythms. It was complex and fulfilling. I understood contrary motion and used it before I knew that it was a technique that was named. I grew up listening to Bach, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff,
Mendelssohn, Holst, and Chopin, so it may have just rubbed off on me.
