Howdy!
I'm a long time believer in Jesus Christ who absolutely loves making music (Psalm 150:1-6) and holds a deep passion for and commitment to serving God through volunteer music ministry and fostering an atmosphere of authentic Spirit and Truth worship (John 4:23-24). While scripture certainly instructs us to pursue excellence and high standards in our ministry (1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Thessalonians 4:1), I do believe care must be taken to avoid raising absolute skill and musicianship as an idol or an end in itself (Exodus 20:3-5). My conviction is that the worship leader's primary role is to guide, support, accompany, and provide context for the musical worship that believers are offering to the Lord...not replace it. This great quote from Bob Kauflin sums it up:
"An effective corporate worship leader, aided and led by the Holy Spirit, skillfully combines biblical truth with music to magnify the worth of God and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, thereby motivating the gathered church to join him in proclaiming and cherishing the truth about God and seeking to live all of life for the glory of God."
My musical background began with acoustic guitar in 1989 and progressed to playing rhythm in a number of worship bands over the years including Calvary Baptist Church Duncanville, Grace Downtown (FBCD) with Michael Bridges, First Baptist Dallas contemporary service, traditional orchestra, and First Baptist Euless 8:10 singles. I also had the blessing of solo leading singles worship at First Dallas from 2002 to 2004 under pastor Steve Hardin.
My technical background includes professional live sound support and engineering, audio engineering and mixing in both live and studio settings. As the previous owner of DFW Recording, Inc., I engineered, recorded and produced projects for groups including David Cote Band, Phil Brumley Band, and the University of North Texas' orchestra and jazz programs.
Seeking a new challenge in mid-2014, I began to seriously study bass guitar and aspire to develop professional fluency. I have really fallen in love with the bass and have made it my primary instrument while filling in on guitar or leading worship as needed.
After a stint as the bassist for a new church plant, The Church at Pecan Creek in Denton, TX, I briefly served as bassist for Dallas based international gospel artist Jennifer Nguyen. My, wife, daughters and I attend First Baptist Dallas as members. I'm currently the coordinator for The Bridge, our volunteer musician program in addition to playing guitar and bass in the various ministries at FBD.
All of this plus two young children, full time work, and my own business keeps me too occupied to take on any additional pursuits such as an independent band.
