ABOUT

With a healthy chunk of attitude, a dynamite lead singer, and a predilection for time-honoured rock ‘n’ roll, Evol Walks has rapidly emerged as a heavyweight contender.
It’s just two short years since singer and songwriter Leah Martin-Brown formed the hard-rock five-piece in her homeland, Australia. Now based in L.A., Evol Walks has bagged an EP, earned plaudits from artists and fans around the world, and played across three Continents. And there’s much more to come.
The rockers -- a tight machine comprising Martin-Brown, drummer Jimmy Lee, lead guitarist CJ Tywoniak, rhythm guitarist Dre DiMura and bass player Ian Ross -- are coming off a whirlwind 24-month stretch in which time they thrilled huge crowds back home and on both sides of the Atlantic.
An extraordinary 12-month-long touring run through 2015 saw the newcomers share the stage with Dream Theater, Flogging Molly, Within Temptation, Shaggy, Black Label Society and many others. They entertained crowds in historic L.A. venues The Viper Room, The Rainbow and The House of Blues. And in one memorable highlight, Evol Walks performed on the Main Stage at Przystanek Woodstock, Continental Europe's largest outdoor music festival, before a crowd upwards of 250,000.
Evol Walks’ hard edge takes its inspiration from the giants of heavy music, from AC/DC to Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Joan Jett, Stone Sour and Monster Magnet, and gives it a modern tweak.
In January 2016, Evol Walks dropped the new single “Without Me”, a refreshing and muscular ballad with obvious crossover potential. The group honed its sound with the guidance of producer Brian Howes (Nickelback, Airbourne, Hinder). “We want to release an album this year. It’s something we’re definitely working towards,” explains Leah. The new song showcases the group’s maturity. There’s no masking “the fact we are songwriters,” adds Leah, “and we can do more than just play four chords loudly.”
The L.A. story is important for the evolution of Evol Walks. Leah traded the beaches and skyscrapers of the Gold Coast for California’s entertainment capital, driven by a single-minded ambition to break Evol Walks. Failure was never an option.
From L.A., the group launched at the prestigious Global Rock Summit at Musexpo in Hollywood in April, 2014 and within months they’d performed alongside the likes of Everclear, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Presidents of the United States of America. Evol Walks’ first single “Heartbreakin’ Woman” arrived in September 2014 and went on to earn global airplay on commercial, digital and community stations worldwide. The hard-rockers were invited to showcase once again at the Global Rock Summit in 2015, the band ventured out on three major tours and wrapped the year up with a slot on the Passport Approved Radio tour of the West Coast.
The early part of 2016 will see Evol Walks push “Without Me” in the U.S., Europe and Australia. The track is already available on iTunes globally. It’s all part of an exciting next phase for the group.
“We had so many great things happen for us the last two years,” explains Leah. “We’ll keep working, keep touring and playing festivals. Our plan is to get ourselves in front of more people. That’s a pretty safe goal to set. And it’s very achievable if we keep working the way we have.”
Expect to see a lot more of Evol Walks in the months and years ahead.
