The Art of Music requires dedication, passion, and determination. These are just a few words that describe the artist known as Giovanni. You can feel his love for music in every note that he plays and in every song that he sings.
Giovanni began singing and playing trumpet professionally at a very young age. His Father, Johnny “Bokat” Laidler, decided to let the young Giovanni join his band called The Success Band. He started to perform with his band at state fairs, festivals, private functions, fashion shows and weddings in Sacramento, California from 1997 thru 2005. Some of these performances included, Live at The Colonial Theater, The Head Start Association Summit in New York City, The Oak Park Summer Concert, California State Fair, and The Meadowview Jazz Festival in which they were the opening act for Eric Benet, The Dells, Heat Wave, and Rose Royce and The Whispers.
Listening to jazz musicians, such as Louie Armstrong, Arturo Sandoval, Maynard Ferguson, Rick Braun and many others, is what sparked his love for jazz. While attending high school he played trumpet and marched for the Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps and soon after joined the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps. During this time he also attended The University of the Pacific majoring in Jazz Studies. Because of his dedication to music throughout his illustrious career Giovanni has been the recipient of many honors and awards. He was inducted into the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps hall of fame in 2008. He was also the most outstanding brass player in 2007 and 2008 in the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2004 Giovanni received the prestigious Semper Fidelis Outstanding Soloist Award as well as the John Philip Sousa Award for Musical Excellence. He Received the Certificate of Musical Achievement from the HeadStart Association in 2003.
Giovanni has performed in various locations with bands throughout the Northern California area. Clubs including Harlows, Old Ironsides, The Sacramento Convention Center as well as the NBA Sacramento Kings halftime group and the NinerNoise group for the 49ers football team. Giovanni has also performed as the lead trumpet player for Anthony Coleman's Simplistic Big Band. He also played lead trumpet for Royal Caribbean Cruise lines. During this time he received the employee of the month award for the month of September in 2017. Currently Giovanni performs his own show on cruise ships called ‘Giovanni’s Tribute to Soul Train and Motown'. Wowing audiences from all over the world with his exciting new show. Giovanni is also an artist at TAD MANAGEMENT.
At sea Giovanni is building a name for himself while on land he is also performing in a band called ‘Hip Service’. This band regularly performs at festivals, weddings and corporate events. Providing high quality professional entertainment all over California. Giovanni is also the co-owner of his own record label called Success Records LTD. In his spare time Giovanni likes to write music, record and give trumpet lessons. He also enjoys spending time with his family and a good game of basketball.
