Regrouped in mid 2006, and new members recently added, Forfeit Freedom has a diverse music background. Daniel and Denton have been in a wide range of bands starting in Junior High School in West Valley City, Utah in 1999. Former bands included: Botany, Deep 6, Deserts Unknown, Chipmunk Stew, Bonner Flytrap and the most aggressive project being Gas Eyes. Dan and Denton also are featured on the 2005 release by Ty Arlint . Buy his album here @ www.tyarlint.com/musicinex.htm
Dan and Denton first started playing their instruments in Junior High, they did not start playing independently until about sophomore year at Granger High School. The band that really started writing songs was Chipmunk Stew. They were approached by another musician at our High School who was asked by his label to have us write 2 songs as a demo to give to Disney for a new TV show that was in the making. They scrambled to create some 3 chord G rated songs. In a 3 hour recording session at L.A East recording studio in Salt Lake City, Chipmunk Stew was officially a band. The Disney thing never happened but our careers had begun. Chipmunk Stew created a few more songs but relationships and school got in the way, Chipmunk Stew was no more after about a year or so.
After Chipmunk Stew, they continued writing their own material in a time when most High School kids were learning and playing cover songs. They decided that this was a better way to develop a small following and a sense of pride in what thy created, as opposed to falling victim to just a cover band. Their junior year was when they acquired bassist Mike Langford. This is when the real turning point was as far as having their own band, Gas Eyes. They got involved in most of the assemblys and events that went on at school. They recorded 2 cds with Mikes brother Justin which gave them an opportunity to let people listen to them. Dans mad artistic skills developed our logo. We took the design and made stickers in the graphic design class at school and the masses proudly displayed their Gas Eyes pride. Their last show as a band happened at Some Dudes Playground in West Jordan, Utah on March 22nd 2003. This show was recorded and became their live album.
A family move for Denton provoked Dan and Denton to write 2 last songs and were recorded at Platinum Sound Labs where Denton had an internship for a short time. The two songs Acoustic Kumbaya and Randys Misfortune, used techniques and styles they hadnt used previously. Acoustic Kumbaya was their only acoustic song they ever created and they had their friends play violin and trumpet parts that they composed. Less than a week before Denton moved to Washington State, the unreleased E.P Lets Make Whoopy! was born.
Although there was 1,000 miles of separation, Dan continued recording his new songs on to tapes and mailing them to Denton. Musical Mass is one good example of a song that was created, mailed, practiced and recorded the next time Dan and Denton were in a recording studio for the Ty Arlint tracking.
Denton moved back in the summer of 2006. They currently rent a rehearsal studio in downtown Salt Lake City and are again creating new songs and should be playing shows shortly. Dentons new project, Disorder lost their drummer so he is also involved in that band, now known as "Killing Carolyn."
Daniel and Denton are no more due to the addition of awesome new member David Craig. February 26, 2007 Dave, Denton and I (Daniel) all got together and decided on a band name. After many different choices, we are now called Forfeit Freedom. The name is all about Slave & Mastery... Just Kidding, enough about S&M unless your into that sort of thing... We are getting ourselves in gear and working on some tunes just so we can start playing shows. To kinda get "The fire under our asses," <----- (Direct quote from Dave) we lined up a gig the second week into april. There is lots of work to be done, and a ton of fun to be had... I hope that everybody feels the same way I do, cause I'm super Stoked!!!
