ABOUT

A Professional Musician and Songwriter, playing and writing songs since 16 years of age. His first song was a Rock Instrumental, during a 3 mth Theory training course with Charlie Deal, who Designed The First Toilet Guitar.

His experience and outlook for the material in the music was from early years growing up in rural Alabama and Georgia. In his own words “Growing up in the country gave me an appreciation of the earth, the small beauties of nature, and the animals, so some of my earlier songs reflect that childhood. "Living in Atlanta, Georgia and Boston Massachusetts has given me new ways of looking at life.”


Experience:

· At 16, with a few old friends, formed a band called “The Agents,” playing at Birthday and various other parties. “The Agents” didn’t last long, and so the start of other small bands for short periods of time. That was a discovery time to find the right kind of music, that I really liked.

· At 18, started a folk trio called the “Free Tide.” Bob Dylan was to have a strong influence on his music and poetry for years to come.

Played a few times on “The Bobby Whitley Show” playing at that time on a Lawrenceville Georgia Radio Station.

At 23, devoted time to writing music, and playing in clubs and bars in the late 60’s. today continuing as a professional musician, songwriter, and teacher, playing around Boston at open mikes and other various local shows, including playing at the AMVETS club and Others in Winthrop for a While.

Belonged to the Boston Songwriters Workshop for 3 years, played at Club III performance with my wife, as a duo called “Restless Spirit.” During that same performance played in the house band for the other member performers.

Helped put together performances and open mikes at the Bethel Church Coffee House in Quincy, A Few Times.

· Put together the Web Site for the New Folk Song Coffee House.

· Helped run the sound show for the Everett 4th of July festivities, asked again to run the sound show the following year

Has helped with other Boston Workshop performances, volunteer publicity work. Kept a list of newspaper deadlines and contacts. Assisted other performers with their Bio’s
Moved to Newnan Ga. Was In the band, "Blu Collar 40 ", for a while. Had to stop, because of bad health My wife and I set up, hosted and DJ'ed, The Newnan Labor Day Fest For The Corner Arts Gallery, In Newnan For 3 Years. 2016, 2017, 2018.
I currently at home most of the time now because of health reasons, working on music, videos, art, and studying various subjects at, MIT OCW, Physics, Quantum Physics,
Quantum Theory, Psychology, Astrophysics, Cosmology,
Also, Graphic Design: Graphics for CD covers, Cassette covers, and Flyers. Has done on occasions freelance graphic design for other artists and companies in general, and videos for music.

Famed Singer/Musician James Laurent at Gallery Row in Newnan

The owners of the new Gallery Row Coffee Shop in Newnan are making a great contribution to the Coweta County Arts Scene. Not only do they exhibit paintings by local artists on their walls and not only do they sponsor art lectures they also bring in great musicians and singers who perform there. The noted singer and musician James Laurent will be performing there every Friday night from now on. Laurent is an accomplished musician on the banjo harmonica and guitar. During the past 30 years he has written over 1500 songs mostly Folk Country, and Blues. He is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association The New England Folk Song Society. And the Boston Songwriters Workshop.
Gallery Row is located at 22 West Court Square in Newnan two doors down from where The Alamo used to be. It is owned by Bill and Kelley Anderson who also own a Gallery Row Coffee Shop in Carrollton. "Black Pearl" Painting Displayed at Gallery Row In Art Auction on E-Bay

James Laurent of Newnan is a man of many talents. I first met him at a meeting of the Coweta Writers Group. Later I learned he was also a singer and musician when I heard him and his wife Sybil perform last year at one of the Coffee House Performing Arts Variety shows held in the Newnan Theatre lobby which was fixed up to look like a coffee house. Later that year he and Sybil gave several performances at a coffee house the brand new Gallery Row Coffee Shop on the Courthouse Square in Newnan. And a painter and a member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association
