ABOUT

In an era of music where record sales are down, downloads are up and monotony rules, there is also a crave for something new and exciting. With music available literally at the click of a button there has never been a larger audience looking for something new and exciting. Enter Jamie Alimorad, an award-winning singer and songwriter. Influenced by artists such as The Tubes and The Beatles, Alimorad began writing and performing catchy, yet sophisticated, pop/rock songs. His electric voice and shows have left a lasting impression on audiences and have made him one of the best up and coming acts.

Born in New York in April of 1988, Alimorad was raised on many classic and eclectic artists. At the young age of 3 it was clear that he was destined to sing putting on shows for family functions and singing along to music playing on the car stereo. When he turned 7 he began to take piano lessons with his elementary school’s music teacher and sang in the church choir. A year later he began to play alto saxophone and in January 2001 formed his first band, Blackbelt (named after the fact all the members were black belts in Tae Kwon Do), performing at school dances and town functions. It was at this time that Alimorad also learned to play the drums. While in school Alimorad was very active in both band and chorus. He was always a featured soloist in the semi-annual concerts in chorus and was first chair in band. In high school he would sing the National Anthem for the school’s sporting events and became drum major of the marching band including performances at Lincoln Center, Disney World and Busch Garden’s Williamsburg.

In 2003 as a freshman in high school Alimorad began acting in the school plays. He became the first freshman in his school’s history to get the lead role in the annual musical, which that year was Little Shop Of Horrors. His performance earned him a Helen Hayes Theater Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role and in June, 2003 he became the youngest person to ever win the award at 15. That year he also performed a duet with Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater. From 2004-2006 Alimorad was lead in a number of other productions including Barnum, Les Miserables, Bat Boy: The Musical and Honk!. He was also nominated for three more Helen Hayes Awards in that period.

Alimorad began attending Northeastern University in the Fall of 2006. There he majored in music technology and minored in music industry. He formed the band Gemini and began performing gigs throughout Boston. They played to their largest audience on July 3, 2007 in Gloucester, MA for the annual Horrible’s Day Parade to over 10,000 people on a float. They played their last show at Northeastern University’s campus nightclub afterHOURS in March 2008.

After the band dissolved Alimorad actively pursued a solo career. In October 2008 he began to put together a band and started performing around Boston and Cambridge at local bars and clubs and developed a strong college following. A year later he performed as part of The Next Big Thing festival at the Worcester Palladium and won best act. On February 11, 2010 Alimorad represented Northeastern at the annual Rice & Bean Pot at the Paradise Rock Club and played to his largest audience at 2:00 AM on April 11, 2010 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.

Alimorad finished recording his debut EP and it will be released in the late spring/early summer of 2010.
