John McBride is a Kerry style bodhrán player and instructor. Within 15 months of taking his first lesson, John qualified in the Midwest Fleadh to compete in the All Ireland (Comhaltas Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann). Two additional Fleadh metals later, he’s also taught bodhrán at the Riley School of Irish Music and subsequently at the Irish Heritage Center of Cincinnati. Additionally, he performed with Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops for the Celtic Spectacular weekend feature shows at Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati. He has been blessed to sit in seisiúns and perform on stages across the country with some of the greatest contemporary Irish musicians. In January 2005, John joined the Firestarters, and performed with that Irish/Folk Rock band for nearly seven years until the end of September 2011.
In 2009 his good friend and band mate, Ric Smith, asked him to perform with Two2Many at the Dublin Irish Festival. Of course he gladly agreed and had so much fun that he continued on with that group. In late 2011, John fully committed himself to performing with Two2Many and has enjoyed every minute thereafter. John has credits on 9 albums, including one for a mezzo-soprano opera singer.
In 2011 the great Galway bodhrán artisan, Michael Vignoles of Ireland Woodcrafts, named one of his professional drum models after John. He has instructed Bodhrán workshops at a variety of Irish/Celtic festivals including; the Dublin Irish Festival, Savannah Irish Festival, Niagara Celtic Festival, Dayton Celtic Festival, Wildwood New Jersey Irish Festival, and at home for the Cincinnati Celtic Festival. The year 2013 marked the release of his Kerry Style Beginner Bodhrán Instruction Video, which has received sterling reviews by publications and contemporaries, and reached #1 selling Amazon music instruction video.
