At the time that I am writing, I have drummed for over 20 years. Although I never pursued the professional musician route, I am formally trained (and even learned about keys and harmonies!) on the drum set. When I was much younger, I played the upright and electric bass for approximately four years and the four years before that I played (ok, I pretended I was playing) violin. I can cover styles ranging from big band (Sing, Sing, Sing anybody?) to surf rock (e.g., the Dick Dale). I enjoy listening to classical, jazz, rock, hip-hop, and all the various combinations.

Influences
Rock: John Poe (Guadalcanal Diary, Love Tractor), Phil Gould (Level 42), Jerry Gaskill (King's X), Stewart Copeland (Police, Oysterhead, Animal Logic), Chad Gracey (Live), and "classic" drummers (e.g., Neil Peart, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Ginger Baker);
Jazz: Tony Williams, Max Roach, Joe Morello, Buddy (basically, the usual suspects).
... I could include a number of great vocalists, guitarists, and bassists ... but who wants to read an endless list anyway?
