I’m not a strong guitar player. I started playing at 13 and had to learn to read music and perform in an ensemble for my music business degree. Nearly 12 years raising kids, widowed, in poverty. All the time I’ve had to practice and perform were the voice memos I made while cleaning house.
I’m a singer songwriter. Trying to remake my father’s album. I can sing, growl, get chamber choir pretty, or manifest raw metal anger. I’m naturally deep and gravely. I just want to create. I have a book of 36.5 songs with melody. My words come first. Like a great man once said “all I really need is 2 notes and a beat.”
My biggest obstacle: I’m widowed as of three years ago in a brand new home that was supposed to be a two person responsibility and raising kids, young kids. If I can find ppl willing to come set up at my house, which is a great space for practice or recording, even podcasts, things could work out really well. Live performances via podcast might be the hottest thing next week, you never know.
Also, I have epilepsy. I can’t drive. W/o childcare or family I can gig out twice a month, 4 X if the timing is VERY good. NOTE: I don’t mix business with pleasure. For the last 10 years since I moved back home after graduating with honors from UIC Music School, top of my class, never haven taken a music class before, I’ve been baited by scumbags wanting to get laid. I interned in the music business management program w/ Zizi Papacharissi. I left Chicago a respected musician, music school legend, assistant to the dean. I wrote the presentation that turned the department into a tier 2 Music School. Soon as I returned to St. Louis, maybe because I’m a model, maybe because I’m a not bad looking lady, but apparently those traits mean I only suck weens and joke about being a serious musician. So it’s been over 10 years and I’ve had the worst experience trying to find serious musicians and even worse timing the last few years. I’m sick of getting the “sleep with me or walk” ultimatum or getting tricked into thinking something and then allowing myself to believe it, so I can play music when I know better. So be decent and don’t waste my time. Or be female.
I SHOULD NOTE: In person, I shine. I don’t have any professional vocal samples it’s been 10 years since I was in the studio. So I uploaded as many f*ck off voice memos as I could lol. Halp!
