ABOUT

The son of a drummer, Lars Hanson started learning drums at age 3 and never looked back. Playing professionally since age 15, Lars gigged with several popular Eau Claire area bands like Tongue and Swamp Angel. After a move to Milwaukee In 1976, he auditioned for and was selected to drum for one of the Midwest’s premier rock and roll acts, Bad Boy. In 1977, Bad Boy signed a recording contract with United Artists Record label. They released two albums, both of which appeared on Billboard and Record World Top 100 charts. In sessions at Warner Brothers Studios in CA and the Hit Factory in New York City, Lars recorded with featured guest artists such as Steve Hunter (Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel), Ray Manzarek (The Doors, Nite City), Earl Slick (David Bowie, Phantom Rocker and Slick) and Barry Goldberg (Bob Dylan, The Electric Flag). Lars also did commercial “jingle” and soundtrack work for Main Street and Trax 52 Studios.

Lars continued to perform and record with several well known musical acts such as Tim Castle and Young Southern featuring Dale Sellers (staff guitarist on the Hee Haw program) The Steve Grimm Band, The Sociables, The Rage and the King Comets. He has performed onstage with Terry Sylvester (The Hollies) and John Ford Coley (England Dan and John Ford Coley) and John Michael Montgomery. Lars and Tim Castle bassist Dave Kasik toured together in 2016 backing up blind blues legend and Grammy nominee Bryan Lee.

Lars has received awards from the WAMI organization, (Wisconsin Association of Music Industry) including best single for his work on "Be My Love, Tonight" by the Rage. He was inducted as a member of Bad Boy into the WAMI Hall of Fame in 1994, He has been profiled in several books about the national and Wisconsin music scene including The Illustrated History of Wisconsin Music 1840 to 1990: 150 Years of Melodies and Memories by Michael G.
