Matt Camp - Guitarist
A Brief Musical Synopsis

It all began when my grandfather put a guitar in my hand for the first time when I was 13. From there I continued to grow as a player and study throughout high school playing in local bands and taking lessons every opportunity that I got.

After high school I put myself through several guitar, theory, and voice classes at local college, U of E. The music program there is top notch. After finishing my last class I jumped in with working band Burning Bridges in 1990 when their guitar player left. I spent the next couple years on the road playing Nashville, Chicago, LA, New York, and everywhere in between opening for such acts as Warrant, Poison, Cinderella, and Firehouse as they were coming up. This was a great time for hard rock music.

As the music scene started changing and grunge crept in we decided it was time for a hiatus and took time off to regroup and reconnect with family. This is when I began to teach guitar for the first time. I admit it has become a passion.

Around 1996 I received an offer from a long time friend to join his band, The Bobby Clark Band. Bobby was unique because he is first cousin to John Mellencamp. Because of this he had an impressive following from the start. We played a lot of local and out of town gigs as well as several fan club events, benefits, and festivals supporting Mellencamp and his band.

While in Bobby’s band I got an offer from an act called PLUSH who were recording their album with Tony Palacios who was in Stryper at the time. I accepted the offer, played on the album, and hit the road with them for the next several years opening for other Christian rock acts such as Audio Adrenaline, Skillet, Switchfoot, Jars of Clay, etc. The band finally disbanded in early 2001 when the label (ran by former Prince guitarist Dez Dickerson) began to put all of their tour support money a new act fronted by Dez’s son.

About this time I began to dive back into guitar instruction and working in a local recording studio. I did this for a few years before meeting someone at the studio who would lead me to form my next band with him as the singer. I formed the hard working band, Pieces of the Day, in 2005. This band was mainly a cover band but kept me onstage 4-5 days a week minimum and my playing grew immensely in this time. I left to form “Calling Corners” in 2008. It was another original band. I missed writing/recording/traveling.

I found some friends to record some of my original music for the Calling Corners project in 2008. The first batch of guys had too many commitments, especially the singer who was tied up singing for Pride of Lions. (formerly Survivor) This recording did allow me to canvas for members and landed me players who ended up having a great work ethic. This had us onstage opening for Theory of a Deadman, Saliva, Puddle of Mudd, Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, etc. in no time.

We continued to travel and write until recording “Evolution Season” with Dove award winning producer Travis Wyrick in 2009. The music can be heard here.

After a few more years I had to replace so many members to keep the band on the road that the band lost chemistry and stopped being fun. I disbanded the band in 2012.

I have spent the last 25 years not only as a musician but an entertainer. I have always made it my goal to play my best AND connect with our loyal audiences. I want to leave every crowd with a performance to remember.

Most recent band here:

World Class Assassins is an all original material band and has been together
for several years now. It’s come to be the most favorite project of my life. Top notch players and it consist of lifelong friends. The chemistry is magic and they are all stellar people as well. They are like brothers to me. In this band I have taken on lead singer role as well as guitars.
