ABOUT

Hi. My name is Paul. I'm 65 years old and have a little trouble getting around, but I'm a well seasoned musician, audio engineer, live sound mixer, lead and rhythm guitar player, bass player, almost drummer, almost keyboard player, and has been playing tours and gigs for most of my life. I also have experience negotiating with management companies, talent agencies, lawyers specializing in music, and general booking agencies. I've been playing in the central New York area for roughly 35 years and no people in many different musical circles. I'm not looking to make it in music per se, but I am looking to meet new Talent and to jam and possibly form a group in the local area to play some local gigs in nightclubs and the wineries. I'm also open to form or join a group doing original music. I've written a ton of tunes I would like to hook up with some people interested in forming them into something and also the other way around where the band has Tunes and might want to hook up with me to help form them into complete songs. I have a lot of experience playing and touring in five star hotels all around the country, Las Vegas, Studio City and Hollywood California, the debutante ball at the Waldorf on New Year's Eve way back when, and all sorts of New York City big gigs like Max's Kansas City and the bottom line many times each. I've also recorded in electric ladyland in the 70s, M&R Studios Manhattan and a wide assortment of Studios throughout the city that may not even exist anymore. But I am experienced in studio recording and engineering. I'm fairly up-to-date in all things digital and analog. I would like to hook up with some people interested in much the same things, and do things as well. Please feel free to contact me at any time regarding any type of rock and blues and Studio work and jamming. Many thanks for your time...

Influences

My musical influences our vast. I've had classical training on the accordion but please don't hold that against me! I was able to play Beethoven and Mozart by age 12, but because of my teacher not teaching me the social side of music, I wasn't able to play Wooly Bully with two other guys or jam with them either because he taught me only to translate music from paper into sound. He never told me to play with other people, so at age 13, I shattered my leg and was able to stop playing accordion and fortunately for me, it was right in the mid-60s when rock and roll became popular and I needed to be with girls real bad! And guess what? The accordion doesn't do it! But growing your hair long and playing lead guitar in a rock and roll band did! So that's where I moved to and learned it quite well. I fronted bands on guitar doing Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, James Gang, Johnny Winter, John Mayall, Edgar Winter, Grand Funk, mandrill, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and I think you get the point. And when I started touring, I had to learn how to communicate with conductors and musical directors and advanced keyboard players, and so I did. I'm now at the point where I can be the musical conductor and director of a five or six piece Rock, pop, Las vegas-type Cabaret bands and others.

EQUIPMENT

I've learned to travel light these days. Since I moved Upstate from New York City, I've been playing bass, 5-string bass mostly although I can play for just fine and I have an exotic and valuable 4-string Bass and a decent 5-string as well along with a Steve Vai Jem guitar. I'm starting to get my guitar chops back now because I've been playing bass mostly over the last 25 years. I've played at least a zillion gigs at least. Maybe a zillion + 1, I'm not sure. I've been in All Stage situations, under the lights and behind them, and am comfortable with all. I have a small bass rig now with a Hartke amplifier head and a small but well-designed Peavey cabinet with two 10-inch speakers and a horn with a volume control. It's small, but it can hold its own next to most any drummer. I have accessed two more cabinets, but I haven't found the need for them yet. I can use the same rig for lead guitar, and have, but as I said earlier, right now my chops and experience are on the bass guitar. I also have many many recordings of me playing with bands, and me playing all the different instruments myself and recording them in my studio. Feel free to ask about any of these.
