ABOUT

We are looking for some good dedicated musicians to re-start our group. We are a jamband that is into the Phish/Grateful Dead/Moe/Particle style jamming scene. The songs we write are generally based around a simple structure but then we like to leave a lot of the rest open to improvisation. The most important things we like to focus on are dynamics, contrasting between loud/soft, fast/slow to create different atmosphere's within each song. If you are interested we have samples of our songs that we can send to you.

Here is our situation. We (which consists of two guitar players who have played together for several years) had our last band together for over a year. However the other band members had different goals so we decided to try and start again and find some talented players who are on the same page. We have good written material, creative ideas, a strong work ethic, and the access to gigs in NYC and feel that it is a good opportunity for the right people.

This is what we are looking for:
1) Talented Musicians who ENJOY playing the same style of music. When we are playing well together and really creating something special it is a lot of fun.
2) People who are willing to put in a little work between practices. We are not expecting you to dedicate massive blocks of time, but one reason why some of the old members did not work out is that they never took the time to learn or review anything before practice and our weekly practice sessions were wasted learning and revisiting the same songs over and over rather than making new progress. It is a matter of taking even 15-20 minutes a week just to review some basic changes and sections so when we have our studio time we are productive and get things done. Not really that big of a commitment, but a small amount makes a HUGE difference. PLEASE THINK ABOUT WHETHER THIS IS SOMETHING YOU ARE WILLING TO DO. IT WILL NOT BE A GOOD FIT AND WILL ULTIMATELY NOT WORK OUT IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO BE PREPARED.
3) The ability to pick up on dynamics. For what we are trying to do it is essential that everyone is listening to each other. If a new theme/speed/dynamic/element is introduced to a jam but we aren't listening to each other then it is wasted. And since that is the emphasis of what we are trying to accomplish it needs to be a musical conversation rather than each voice just trying to be louder and dominant.
4) Also while we take this seriously and have a lot of goals, it is not a professional paying gig. While we will eventually get to the point where we are paid for gigs this is not a salaried position. We have day jobs and are not looking to tour around the country (unfortunately).

Sorry if some of this sounds kind of harsh but having been in several bands over the years we have gotten to the point where we are really eager to reach our goals and we have seen that it jsut doesn't work when these values are not shared by all of the members. I know it sounds pretty specific and maybe a little picky but if you are looking for the same type of situation I think it could be a great situation. We are looking to audition keyboards, drums, or any other instrument that could add something to our mix. So if it sounds interesting then we would love to meet you and jam.
