After years of elementary school and church choir participation plus private piano lessons with his grandmother, Scott began playing drums in 7th grade, at home and school. He earned drumming spots for the likes of Snuffy Smith, Jimmy Voegeli, Jazz X, Harry Lucas & the Lowdown, Cherie Norquay Band and Summer Haze. In Junior High School Scott took drum lessons one summer with Tony Ferrell (Voigt Music Center, Janesville, WI) and was instructed in High School by Raymond Baumgardt, writer, arranger and High School Music Instructor (The Madison Scouts Drum Corps and The Texas State One O’clock Lab Bands among others). In college Scott’s instructor was Robert Holt, Professor Emeritus of Jazz Music Studies at the University of Wisconsin. Scott became an “in demand” drummer for the Southern WI & Northern IL area while living in Madison, WI and performed “on call” for dozens of bands. Contact: ScottyJ357
