ABOUT

Our sound:

://./thestarryeyedart

Indy-rock/alternative/ experimental; could be described as an amalgamation of styles comprised of poetic lyrics, indy-rock grooves, multiple layered vocal parts and ambient textures with orchestral flourishes of keyboard, flute, and French horn. Our music is of the an experimental nature, where we incorporate occasional elements from many other genres such as modern jazz, funk, blues, bluegrass, and all eras of classical music.

Image/Performance:
All members seek to have an appealing image, but also maintain their own sense of individuality. We are all seasoned performers but we continually look for new ideas on how to improve our live show and make it more interesting.

Member Facts/Writing Style:
This band is currently comprised of 5 members who went to or are in college for music (two graduated, three will graduate in May). The writing of songs is very much a group project with all band members having the opportunity to create lyrics, melodies, and musical parts and add their own input to the songs we currently have (which are always evolving) and all future compositions.

Band History:
This band formed at Five Towns College where four of the band members attended or are currently attending classes ( The other member, Matt got a bachelor’s degree in music at CW Post). This group played under a different name (Displayed From The Inside) until recently when they parted ways with their singer (who was unable to commit enough practice and performance time). During that time, this group has completed nearly an album’s worth of material, has made several recordings, and has played all over Long Island and New York City.

Future Plans:
Since all the members of the band will have graduated college by May of 2008, we will, after finding a vocalist, be preparing for an active career in music which will include recording a demo and embarking on an active gigging schedule which will eventually lead to touring.

What We Seek in a Vocalist:
We seek a lead vocalist, who can play at least rhythm guitar; but any other musical instruments you wish to play can likely find a place in this group in some manner. You must be able to easily commute to the middle Long Island area for regular practices. The ability to read music and understand music theory (at least what pitches the most basic types of chords are comprised of) is definitely a plus for communication purposes, but the minimum requirement is someone who is willing to learn at least basic music theory (4 of us teach music so this part won't be a problem). Otherwise, we seek someone who will be able to bring their own style and feelings about music and performance but will be open-minded to working in a group setting.

E-mail us a recording of you singing, a picture, and basic information about yourself at starryeyedirish; if there is a problem with any this, talk to us and we’ll make other arrangements.
