ABOUT

Been in Vancouver for a couple years but I'm from Tampa, Florida. I'm a drummer, but I love to sing, and would like to sing lead or background vocals from time to time, but as a band member I'm a drummer first, and a singer second. I'm not a particularly flashy drummer. I don't like to play over the other instruments, I find more satisfaction in playing to the music than in playing drum solos.

I won't lie, I've been living in an apartment and won't have my own practice space for a while. I can move my drums, but I haven't been able to practice as regularly as I'd like since I've been here. Don't worry, though, I'm committed to the craft and won't let it drag us behind.

Most importantly, I don't really like the idea of starting a band that makes one kind of music. In my spare time I've been known to program drums and I'm not afraid of drum machines or electronic influences, and I won't shy away from any style. I have a preference for rock but music is a collaborative process, and there are no rules.

Influences

(in no particular order) Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, The Flaming Lips, Mew, Counting Crows, They Might Be Giants, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, The Band, and many, many more. Generally a lot of different kinds of rock music, but I don't like to pin it down to one particular style. You can really get a sense for the kind of drummer I am by listening to songs by Death Cab or later Tom Petty in particular. I take a lot of inspiration from the background styles of Jason McGerr and Steve Ferrone, being excellent players without stepping on anyone's toes, be it guitars or vocals.

I'm also a huge, huge, *huge* fan of Levon Helm, which is where my desire to be a singing drummer comes from.

Tom Petty is easily my greatest musical hero, but I have no desire to be in a band rehashing music of the past. Dad rock had its time, and as good as some artists are, it's such a restrictive genre. Like I said in the description, I believe music should have no rules, and to try and emulate past heroes is great and all, but it has been done before.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that 2023 has rekindled a long dormant love for progressive metal in me, bands such as Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Opeth, and a rapidly growing catalogue that I listen to while I work. It's not the genre I see myself playing in a band, but it is worth noting.

EQUIPMENT

Gretsch Catalina Special, Sabian cymbals, ever growing array of snare drums

Also some guitars that I'm 100% willing to share with band members for practice, recording and live performance purposes. They're not incredible, but who said every guitar has to be a Gibson or a Fender?
