I am a pocket drummer currently working with a guitarist. We are in the process of forming a collaborate, creative, musical collective called: The Jelani Collective; Jelani meaning great and powerful.
In this collective we will be attempting to blend many, many musical forms including elements of: Funk/ Soul/ R&B; Psychedelic and Progressive Rock; Jazz and Blues; and World music elements (such as Latin, Dub Reggae, Afro-Beat, Afro-Funk, Latin-Funk, Middle Eastern, and perhaps East Indian). We are looking to improvise, as well as stretch out into soundscapes within arrangements, but in no way shape or form are we looking to do a "jam band" type of thing; as we are looking to do something far more edgy than that.
The Jenali Collective is the incarnation of our two previous groups which have been on hiatus; a Funk/Latin/Fusion group that I formed/founded called "Friends of the Family," and a Psychedelic/Progressive Rock/Dub Reggae group that the guitarist formed/founded called "Elemental." That is, The Jelani Collective is a merger and reformation, by using ideas and concepts from previously recorded material from the two groups, as a springboard for the group. And of course, we would like to simultaneously collaborate on new material.
I have a rehearsal space. I hope that you would be interested, or at the least, be interested in speaking via phone. As a point of reference, I have provided a link below to the electronic press kit to the group I mentioned above; once again, which has been on hiatus. The three songs heard at the electronic press kit could be learned to quickly land gigs, as a demo of sorts. And, the electronic press kit itself can be quickly revised to "The Jelani Collective," and used as media to land shows; once a core line-up and solid set-list are established. And as mentioned above, I have a catologue of other previously recorded material not heard at the sight that we would like to rework and rearrange, in order to add vocals, spoken word (etc...); and to fit the style of new band members. Ideally, we would like to blend instrumental material, with material that has vocals/spoken word etc...
