Ryan Shah was born in 1976 in Missouri, USA. He began learning drum set at age six and was performing by age twelve.
In 1994 Ryan began studying Drum Set under Jeff Sipe "Apt. Q258" and in 1995 he attended Drummers Collective in New York City and studied under Fred Klatz, Mike Clark, Bobby Sanabria, Duduka da Fonseca, Pete Zeldman, Mike Lauren, Sandy Gennaro and Kim Plainfield.
In 1996 he attended Berklee College of Music and studied under Skip Hadden and Kenwood Dennard.
Ryan has done both live and studio work for local Rock and Jazz bands around the southeast and New England areas. He has recorded for classical composer David McNally. He also performed at the Georgia Dome for 80,000 people in the 1998 Fox 97 "Ultimate Oldies" Concert in Atlanta, Georgia, backing J.J. Jackson, Freda Payne, The Crystals, and Sonny Geraci.
From August 1997 to January 1999, Ryan and two local Columbia musicians, Zack Jones and Franklin Caggiano, performed under the name of Medulla Peltor, fusing rock and jazz influences. (See ./MedullaPeltor)
While living in New York and Boston, Ryan attended many Indian classical music concerts and developed an intense love for the art. In 1997 Ryan began studying Tabla under Pralad Khutri in Charlotte, NC.
In 1998 Ryan established Tusharjee Productions, an organization that arranged Indian classical music concerts in South Carolina and hosted concerts for Nandkishore Muley, Anupama Bhagwat, Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Ramesh Mishra, and Sabir Khan.
In the summer of 1999 Ryan travelled to Calcutta to study Tabla under Sabir Khan of the Farrukhabad Gharana.
On his second trip to Calcutta in 2001, Ryan formed a music group called Time Travil that fused elements of Classical Indian Music with Improvisational Jazz. Time Travil performed in Calcutta at Rabindra Sadan, St. Xavier's College, Royal Calcutta Golf Club and on the Tara Bangla TV show "On Date Special". Time Travil also performed in the US at The Knitting Factory in New York and in the Charleston Cultural Festival in South Carolina among other venues in the southeast US and New England.
In the winter of 2004, Ryan played in Tanmoy Bose's fusion band Taal Tantra and performed at the following venues in Calcutta: Salt Lake stadium, Swabhumi, Calcutta Cricket and Football Club, Calcutta Club, Nazrul Manch (with The Violin Bros.) among others.
Since 2003 Ryan has been composing music under the name of Time Spy.
In the winter of 2005 Ryan performed percussion duets in Calcutta with Gokul Das (Dhak) and also with Monojith Datta (Conga).
In the summer of 2006 Ryan performed on Tabla in various groups with Jeff Sipe in southeast US.
Since 2007 Ryan has been studying the Farrukhabad and Benares Gharanas of Tabla under Dr. Panab Kumar Das in Kolkata, India.
Most recently Ryan has worked with Siddharth Chaudhuri "Sadda Sidd", accompanying him in classical kheyal performance/recording. (Log onto: ./SiddSings). He has also featured Siddharth Chaudhuri's voice on his newest Time Spy CD "Sadda Sidd Remixes".
