Drums.ABOUT
Hello my name is Micheal “Samuri” Morris, and here’s a little piece of information about me and my musical background. I am 24 years old based out of Richmond VA and I have been playing since I was 4 years old. I started banging on pots and pans on day and found myself enjoying every beat that I could come up with. So I started to teach myself how to play. I started to get serious at 10 years of age and decided that I needed to try to perfect this gift that god has given me. I started praying and god revealed to me that this is what I will do for a living in my adult life. So I started looking at drummers like Dave Weckle, Donald Bruner, Buddy Rich along with other local drummers. As time went on I discovered Eric Moore, Thomas Pridgen, Tony Roster, and Eric Jones. These drummers inspired me to really get down to business and create my own style of playing and so that I can also make my mark as well. Here’s where my Journey began.
I have played for various gospel artist such as Tye Tribbett, Fred Hammond, Malcolm Williams, Vashawn Mitchell, Timothy Wright, Patrick Lundy, Steven Roberts, Sam Bennet, Karen Clark Sheard, Preshea Hillard etc. I have assisted numerous artist in workshops choirs as well. By working with these artists, I had to promote myself by producing demos, references by other artist, and also on the spot auditions.
Amongst those people I have been Great complements by very noteworthy musicians. I currently play for the Richmond Outreach Center which is noted as being the fastest growing church in America, written in various magazines. I also play for a respectable local church also Redeemed Assembly of Jesus Christ. Aside from this church I play all over whenever I’m called upon. I love the challenges of different styles of music which I work on in my down time, I practice for worst and best case scenarios so that I would be able to be almost if not perfect at my performance.
Aside from my extensive musical skill and experience, I have also worked in various work environments, including the "corporate world" which has given me additional experience in working with diverse people in a team setting. I have also taken an interest in teaching the younger generation how to play and help them create their own style I believe that directly correlates with working in a band – I know how to conduct myself professionally and effectively for the betterment of the group as a whole, not just myself. I love building a rapport with my fellow band members because I feel that music should be empowering and if you don’t have a good relationship with the people that you are working with, you won’t have good music.
