You can find anything in The Fields. This statement has come to define the influence and sound of this young and hungry group based in The Steel City, Pittsburgh PA. Spawned during the crossroads of life, the founders Ricci Minella and Joe Herbick were long time friends attending the same middle school, high school, and college. During their tenure at Duquesne the two began playing guitar to the dislike of many students who listened to them jam at all hours of the day. During their senior year the two began to play for small crowds consisting of three song sets and acoustic sound. In time they began to blend their sound and influence into what echoes through their amplifiers today. Ricci’s sound was based in the imaginative taste and thought provoking lyrics of artists such as Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, and Dr. Dog. To contrast Joe was rooted in the squeals of Motley Crue, simplicity of Nirvana, and progression of the Sex Pistols. However there was one band/sound they finally came to agree on: The Beatles. As a two-man show, with occasional guests, the need for a full band began to get bigger and more important. In what can only be described as a miracle to some, they placed one flyer at one guitar store and only got one call back. Geoff Klein, aka Dahmer, arrived at “the garage” on a cold March afternoon. Huddled in a tight spaced shared with just about every power tool known to man the sound of the Fields was born. Geoff provided a refreshing sound based in Lotus, prior experiences, and sounds that propelled the band to create sounds only appropriate to the “All Good” settings of his imaginative framework, and Umphrey’s McGee. After months of continuous play they finally selected the highest art which was no art, and according to George Harrison “ We just played the sort of stuff we liked, it became a commercial success, and we don’t play to any category…isn’t that right chaps.”
