ATLANTA-raised drummer Christopher “C Breezy” Belcher is considered the “complete package” of a true percussionist, infiltrating the music scene in his home town by playing gospel/soul/hip-hop/jazz & Big Band shows.
He has played for artist such as R. Kelley, Rocko, Pastor Troy, J Holiday, Silk, Majee, Kim Burrell, Lacreisa Campbell , Kathleen Bertrand, Kenny Garrett, Phil Davis among others.
Chris diverse musicality allowed him to open up shows for big stars such as Terrence Blanchard, Fantasia, Branford Marsalis, Rachelle Ferrell, Freddie Jackson, Jo Sample, Patty Austin, Ramsey Louis Trio, Barbra Morrison, Howard Hewett, among other.
Chris has made worldwide television appearances, performing in a McDonalds commercial featuring Clark Atlanta University’s drum line and Fox 5 Atlanta Morning Show performing with the world renowned CAU Jazz Tet.
Currently Chris has been nominated for 2012 ATL”s Hottest Musician by ATL”s Hottest Awards held in Atlanta. He has recently auditioned and was casted to go on tour the 2012-2013 hit show DRUMLINE Live.
Born in Queens, New York, drummer Chris Belcher also known as “C Breezy” at the age of 3, migrated south with his mother and sister to Atlanta, Georgia.
He began playing drums at church(The Ministry of New Life) where his grandmother pastored, at the age of 7 but his first professional gig began accompanying his elementary music teacher, performing the Grammy Award winning song “I Believe I Can Fly” for his 5th grade Graduation Ceremony.
Chris continued to groom himself as a dynamic musician in his teenage years in high school, receiving awards and accolades such as, Outstanding Musicianship Award, Jazz Band- Louis Armstrong Award, Creekside HS Most Talented Musician, Most Gifted- McClendon Music Institute among others.
Chris Belcher lead his high school Jazz Band to win back to back jazz competitions that allowed them to perform in one of the biggest jazz festival in the country, “The Atlanta Jazz Festival”.
While still in high school, Chris was scouted out by Clark Atlanta University band director, Cedric Young and jazz orchestra director, James Patterson. He received a jazz orchestra Guild Music scholarship to attend Clark Atlanta as well as Claflin University, in SC.
In 2004, Chris Belcher took over as the head drummer for the World Renown CAU Jazz Orchestra, who has performed locally, nationally, and internationally with numerous jazz artists, including Duke Ellington, James Moody, Dizzy Gilespie, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Mary Lou Williams, and Frank Foster.
During his years in college, he performed on a professional level in Award shows such as, The Trumpet Awards, Soul Train Awards with R. Kelley ,ATL’S Hottest Awards, The Atlanta Jazz Festival, Samuel Jackson Tribute, Ambassador Andrew Young Tribute, 2004-2012 NAACP annual Mayors Masked Ball, among others.
From his matriculation at CAU to now, Chris has become one of the most passionate, influential musicians that the world has ever heard. In 2008, he teamed up and began performing full time for the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. In 2011, he was endorsed by the Fortune 500 company Coca-Cola to tour and perform at HBCU Classic games.
Throughout his music career, Chris has remained grounded in his faith, being thankful for every opportunity that has come his way. “ I know this gift is from God, and the only way for musicians to touch lives, is that musicians have to perform in spirit.”
Currently, Chris is nationally touring with Drumline Live, J Holiday, and Majee(KonvictMuzik)
