ABOUT

"Youthful"-yet-older blue-eyed soul brother/old hippie. Experience with various working bands doing vintage R&B, classic rock, roots & country-rock, and traditional old-school country. Fairly eclectic tastes with current leanings toward the broad spectrum of "Americana" and "bluescentric" rock. Prefer playing at low to moderate volume with emphasis on good dynamics. Non-smoker. Can sing an occasional lead. Harmonize well. Good organizational and project management skills. Open to jamming but prefer more focused collaboration on simple, clean, tight, tasteful arrangements with definite starts, breaks and endings, and incorporating 2 to 4 part vocal harmony when appropriate. My ideal ensemble consists of BASS, lead guitar, keyboard (with piano and organ settings) and/or a second guitar...and, of course, drums. Like to play out, especially for community events, corporate and private events and music festivals, and micro-breweries, though also wiling to play some bars. Would likely want to limit to 2 gigs per month. Available to serve as a fill-in drummer. BTW:
Have created a Shuitar and suitcase kick "drum" set-up for acoustic sessions. Retired and divorced so my time is mostly my own. Have kept current on Pfizer COVID boosters. I can be reached using jim at jimulrich dot net or via Fb.

Influences

Early influences include "British Invasion" bands, then old school R&B artists like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Sam & Dave and the like. Later influences include Gram Parsons, Boz Skaggs (his non-commercial stuff), Van Morrison, Delbert McClinton, Tab Benoit, John Hammond, Steve Earle, Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan (electrified), The Band, The Byrds (their country period), Lucinda Williams....to name just a few. Current obsession is "Americana" but still dig the funky stuff, blues, classic rock and country and traditional pop jazz (e.g., Booker T...)
