ABOUT

Hi there! Maddy Hatchett is an original project inspired by 70s rock/Americana music based out of Austin, TX. Led by singer-songwriter, Maddy Hatchett (big surprise, I know) I am seeking to build out a band to fulfill a fuller, more collaborative artistic vision. This could warrant a name change to be more inclusive if I can find the right folks.

This is not a classic dad rock cover band but rather an original act focused on channeling that raw rock’n’roll sound in a way that feels fresh/relevant in a new decade. I am not so focused on genre - what matters to me is great songwriting with a sonic signature that carries beyond any one genre/time period.

I am looking for musician songwriters. It is important to me that individuals are passionate about wanting to be the best they can on their instruments but also have a sense of composition and how the components of a song work together. That said, people with a background in songwriting and who can also sing would be preferred (not a hard requirement for drummers but would be nice).

My vision is a power trio of guitar, bass, and drums AND I think it would be super badass if the bassist was also proficient on guitar so we could switch instruments during sets (I also play bass). I envision another instrumentalist who can harmonize so we can sing together. I think this is a huge perk given the challenge to produce a full sound as a three piece.

Although I have an arsenal of songs written to this point I’m very open to co-writing and having the second front person sing originals as well (and is open to being harmonized with). Think of those big 70s harmonies with an electric drive.

Again, going back to the idea that it’s all about the song I am open to hiring on one off players or session players as needed but I think the core of the band should be three. This makes coordinating and decisions a hell of a lot easier.

Regarding commitment level I am looking for people who want this as a career and understand that a band doesn’t break overnight. It’s not your calling when the stars align, it’s your calling when you put in the work and keep showing up when it gets hard. I need people who practice consistently on their own because they love to do it and love to challenge themselves. If you are not certain you want a career in music then this is not the band for you.

All this said, I do currently have a day job because I want to finance quality recordings, equipment, lessons, and living in the city of austin (lol). But when I’m off the clock it’s go time. I try to be mindful of taking strategic gigs that move the needle. Quality over quantity.

I’ll also share a bit about myself outside of music. As of 2023 I’m 24 years old and based in Central ATX. I graduated from UT Austin with a degree in Advertising and enjoy going to shows, hiking, cooking, and also other forms of art like writing and painting.

If you think you could be a good fit I’d love to learn more about you. I really feel that the music I’ve been writing to this point belongs in a band and I’d love to meet other people who feel the same.
