American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark in the 1950s was Philadelphia’s first major contribution to American mainstream music. The 1950s in Philadelphia gave way to pop stars like Fabian, Bobby Rydell and Frankie Avalon. Another famous Philly native is Patti LaBelle who became a major pop soul singer in the 70s. East Coast Hip Hop is another music genre that emerged from Philly. Producing famous musicians and actors like Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Lisa Lopes of TLC and Boyz II Men were also famous musicians from this time and place.
Philadelphia has the second largest Jamaican population in the United States. Jamaican music has become a major part of Philadelphia’s night club scene. Jamaican style has become known as dancehall spurring several venues to hold contests throughout Philadelphia.
The World’s Café Live is a venue that boasts great seats for everyone, great food, and of course, great music.
