UPDATE: we now have a bass player, two guitars, and a female vocalist. We're working on an eclectic mix of tunes - Adele, Carrie Underwood, Scary Pockets, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha, etc. We've been rehearsing on Saturday afternoons near Camp Mabry in central Austin. We're starting to look for a keyboard player with similar tastes and motivations.
I'm putting together a band and looking for a few like-minded musicians. I play drums but am not a pro, although I’ve played in several bands around Austin over the years. I have a bass player who is a former pro bassist turned tech exec and now retired. We are motivated to play music, have fun, and get better. We are not doing this to make money. We might play out occasionally, but we won’t be playing gigs in Johnson City and getting home at 3am. We have a small practice space off Mopac near Camp Mabry. We don’t care how old you are, but just so you know, we are both in our 60s.
We’re looking for a couple of guitar players, and we’d be thrilled if we could find a keyboard player and a sax player. A female vocalist who also plays guitar or keys would be icing on the cake. Our initial song list includes Boz Skaggs, Bonnie Raitt, Heart, Journey, Steely Dan, and Sheryl Crow, but we’ve played every genre possible, and we’re open to ideas. If I had to label us today, I’d say yacht rock jam band. If you have some originals that don’t suck, we’ll give them a shot.
