Music is a necessity. From an early age, I have been quite aware of how much music affects my thoughts, feelings, and action. Music is how I express myself. And I have recognized that conjuring a rhythm by hitting cymbals and drums allows me to best radiate my energy.

I did not have any formal music education. Although I was required to take some music classes during elementary and high school, I have always learned my craft in music much like a baby has: through listening, watching, and imitating. And to learn drumming, I believe it is imperative to learn from the best.

I appreciate all genres of music, all styles of playing, which is why my ability as a drummer cannot be limited to one specific category.

I am not an expert, a doctorate, or a guru of drumming, but I have played enough, long enough, with enough talented musicians, to understand that playing is all about serving the music.

I believe that a drummer is responsible for one essential aspect: grooving or playing-in-the-pocket, as we drummers say. So this means that a drummer must have a good sense of time and timing. Of course, technique and a knowledge of basic rudiments are also keys to adding flavor and creativity within the space of music.

Overall, I love playing the drums. I will keep the pulse of my rhythm until I die.
