ABOUT

31 YO dude seeking ambitious, experienced bandmates for noisy, pissed, abrasive hardcore band.

What I’m looking for in a group

- Weekly rehearsals
- Playing at least 2 shows a month
§ Road gigs are cool as are weekend runs, but I have a dog and a full-time job, so touring is out for the time being
Bandmates that:
- Are available for shows and rehearsals i.e. are comfortable making commitments and following through
- Have some get-up-and-go and are interested in being active in the scene, going to shows, and talking to strangers to make connections, friends, etc.
- Are decisive
- Aren’t precious with their art
§ I’m not and it’s just easier if we’re all on the same page
- Give criticism and can take it i.e.:
§ Aren’t afraid to veto something with a reason
§ Won’t get butthurt when everyone agrees you could/should/need-to do something differently
- Want to do actually do the thing
§ Honesty and follow-through
§ Understand that logistical bullsh*t is necessary. I’m not super into social media or “being online” but it’s what we have to do.
- Have their own gear and that gear must be show-ready for small clubs.
- Practice on their own time and show up to rehearsal with the songs learned
§ If you’re struggling, at least be forthcoming and articulate what you’re having a hard time with. Everyone wants to succeed so I for one am happy to help and also ask for it!
- Help with the logistical bullsh*t of the band i.e. social media stuff, reaching out to venues/other bands, either produce the media or find someone that can

I DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITH YOU IF...
- this is your first band
- you have to borrow gear or don’t know how to use what you have
- you don’t have a developed sense of what you like or want to sound like and how
- you want to play happy hardcore or hardcore with a positive message
- you’re not interested in taking stylistic risks

WHAT I FIND IMPORTANT
- Playing live
§ An intense live performance
§ Controlled chaos
§ We’ve got to build notoriety and I feel that in a saturated punk scene, one can do that only with songwriting and performance
- Thoughtful media
§ Video promos? If we have to outsource it, fine, but I still think it’s a good thing to do!
§ Digital flyers
§ Cohesion among social media pages (preferably just , , spotify)
- Getting music recorded, mixed, and uploaded online quickly
§ I’m talking about getting 3 songs recorded and posted within the first 3-5 months
§ While I do care if something sounds slapped together or flat out bad, I’m more interested in capturing an atmosphere rather than it sounding super polished. Raw is good.

MUSICALLY, I'M INTERESTED IN:
- Tasteful, quick starts and stops
- Feedback, noise, etc.
- Playing loud and fast (or painfully slow)
- Playing in tunings other than standard. Doesn't matter too much to me but come on Eb is heavy!
- Being kind of grindy but not necessarily a grindcore band
- Songs under 3min long. There are always exceptions, though!
- Blast beats
- Not abusing the breakdown
- Dissonance

MUSICALLY, I'M *NOT* INTERESTED IN
- Clean channel breaks
- Stupid macho bullsh*t
§ No sports imagery
§ No transphobia, misogyny, homophobia, racism, other corrosive ideologies
- Clean singing
- Choruses with gang vocals
- Playing covers live. There’s always exceptions, though!
- Guitar solos. Exceptions here, too

ABOUT ME
- I’ve been playing live since I was 13. Played drums in several bands. Sang in three.
- My lyrics are mostly non-narrative, either metaphorical or literal, and about:
§ Pain/suffering, shared and individual
§ Complicated emotions/emotional responses
§ My fears
§ Human conflict, imagined and real
As a performer, I am:
- Flamboyant, theatrical
- A yeller and screamer (mostly high-pitched, frantic screeching. No low gutterals sadly?)
