I am a seasoned guitar player in my mid-sixties, looking to join a rock band for gigging and/or recording. I can play either rhythm or lead, have many years of experience playing and performing, and am looking for a band with musicians in the 40+ age range. My background is primarily instrumental surf music and alternative; however, I have played in bands in the past that featured rock music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. My preference would be to contribute to and play original melodic vocal-based rock music, or at least unique versions of cover songs. My own singing skills are pretty limited, although I can sometimes help with background vocals. I founded the instrumental surf rock band Splashback (http://www.myspace.com/splashbacksurfrock), and more recently played guitar in the alternative rock band Drifting Compass (http://www.myspace.com/driftingcompass). My equipment is professional, and use of guitar effects minimal; essentially, I use light analog echo and mild-to-medium overdrive (depending upon the song) to produce a full, rich tone. I am not really a player that is comfortable with improvisation (no real interest in “fun” jam sessions, that typically lack any motivation to strive for the next level); instead, I prefer to spend time myself to develop the right lead and/or rhythm lines for the song. I am not ego or drama-motivated, and am not in competition for "who's the best guitar player?" in the band, nor do I want to be the bandleader; instead, I strive to maintain a positive attitude focused on teamwork and goals of the band. I really like playing in front of people, and would hope to ultimately record and perform with a band that truly revels in creating and playing good music. I don't mind traveling for rehearsals or gigs, and don’t smoke or do drugs. If age is an issue of your consideration, I understand completely; however, most people think I am quite a bit younger, because of my appearance and demeanor.
