ABOUT

Guitarist/singer seeking musicians for a post-hardcore/slowcore band
Hey champion, hey championne, join bravo champion.
With a vision of a diversified musical project, in a young and relaxed creative spirit, looking for a drummer, guitarist or anyone else who can play something really cool like the accordion.
Overall, the project involves making music in village fairs, the drunken bars of La Plaine in Marseille, the sound system trucks at protests, the Fête de l'Huma, all nice places with the main thing in common being that they offer no chance of lasting success (apart from, perhaps, in the neighborhood, and even then, maybe thanks to people we wouldn't even appreciate), but will eventually become mythical among thirty or so people thirty or so years from now, who will be eating bootlegs of abysmal quality when they'd be much better off buying stuff at the organic market, installing dry toilets in their homes and gentrifying post-industrial neighborhoods.
I'm not a great guitar player, but I can do stuff, I make your old lady weep when I sing and first-year modern literature students weep when I write (but not in English, too bad), I've also accumulated some sixty songs in my catalog, and they're all extraordinary. I fully intend to be able to play yours too, if you have any, because I fundamentally believe in democracy.
Overall, I have three passions in life: love, the struggle of classes and the Olympique de Marseille. My songs are often based on the same themes.
Now for the name: Bravo champion.
Bravo champion isn't just a band (and there's only one member at the moment, so it would be a bit inappropriate to call it a band stricto sensu), it can also resemble a sports friendship band, or rather a supporters' friendship band, in short, a champions' friendship band. The romanticism, but also the mild ridicule, of sports defeat or victory is often a fascinating aesthetic object.
In this spirit, I suggest that, as part of Bravo Champion's activities, you abandon your real identity and adopt a champion's nickname. For example, mine is Jean Alonso, somewhere between Fernando Alonso and Jean Alesi. Other identities are available or vacant: Kevin Quesnel, second division striker, Francis della Piana, who played some time for the Seattle Pilots, Marcelle Poulain, who won the Colombes athletic meetings in 1954, Thaig Hawk, somewhere between Tony Hawk and Thaig Kris, or Evdokia Romanovna Atominskaia, a Soviet skater.
If you're sufficiently French-speaking, the name "Bravo Champion" presents a problem that doesn't arise in English, namely that the noun "champion" is masculine. I wouldn't be opposed to changing it to bravo championne, or bravo champion.ne.x, but we can also stick with "champion" in English, which has the advantage of being gender-neutral. Or we could just change the name, because I'm a great believer in democracy.
Let's get to the heart of the matter: music. I like a lot of things about music, despite the fact that I hardly ever listen to it. In terms of musical genre, I like to almost never take the distortion out of my guitar, for it to be noisy but also melodic, with changing time signatures and well-crafted harmonies.
My songs are often sad, but I like concerts to be particularly joyful and parodic, with chenilles, summer camp songs, participation from the audience, Zumba or even aqua aerobics sessions (if we ever play in a swimming pool), monologues, karaoke, maybe even skits to make it sound like a musical, and covers of commercials (I only know the French ones, though, so you'll have to acculturate me to American commercials).
To get you started, here are my five favorite artists:
James Brown
Slint
Alain Souchon
Elliott Smith
Radiohead
Here are my five favorite songs:
Furtunatu (Corsican folk song)
Djadja by Aya Nakamura
You can't hurry love by The Supremes
Essa moça ta differente by Chico Buarque de Hollanda
Zouk la sé sel medikaman nou ni by Kassav
Here are my five favorite albums:
Duster - Stratosphere
Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch
Andrea Lazlo de Simone - Uomo Donna
Fishmans - 98.12.28 ?????
The Velvet Underground- The Velvet Underground
If all this has convinced you, if you want to start something from here or already have a band and you'd like to put me in it, I invite you to send me a message, funny or not, and which could contain, for example, details of your musical skills, your favorite songs or even your champion name. If I'm not doing something else, like wandering through harbor landscapes to be sad, I'll try to reply.
