MERWIN - Drums.
Started playing drums in grade school. Joined a band in middle school, then other bands of all kinds including a "Chicago/Tower of Power" style horn band, college jazz big bands and jazz ensembles. Eventually became the drummer for PAUL REVERE & THE RAIDERS for 3 years...stage name of "Samurai Raider"! (rock).
Locally played gigs with Korla Wygal, Jacqueline Tabor, Hilary Harris (traditional jazz), Deems Tsutakawa (funk jazz) and other funk & rock groups. Creating a groove with drive, intensity, musical character & sophistication are the elements I seek to contribute to a band, with an emphasis on dynamics, and focused listening to other band members...together building an outstanding group sound - more than just jamming. Have enjoyed compliments on having a style and groove that supports and elevates the groups' sound.
