I currently have 4 ongoing music projects, with some only requiring three hours of commitment per micro project.

1) Working with individual vocalists, mixing their voice with Karaoke backing tracks and/or as multi-instrumentalist & recording engineer to create backing tracks for the vocalist. These are micro projects that can be completed within a three hour window of time.

2) As audio engineer on tracking & mixing a full band live and/or studio. These projects can take from three days to my full attention for up to from 30 to 60 days.

3) Cover band with me as lead guitarist & sharing lead vocals with one two other band members. The style would be well known platinum pop hits, and/or any song on be that has managed to receive over 1 million views in 1 year. This would be an ongoing project.

1) First project in greater detail:

a) Step one: utilize Karaoke backing tracks to make test recordings to determine vocal skill level, and most compatible pop style. All vocal skill levels welcome. These are 3 hour commitment windows of time. Zoom is my preferred way of working on all the pre production planning.

b) Step two: working with a vocalist and/or band to improve song wringing/arranging. This would most likely be in pop song musical styles. Once we've got the songs written over zoom we can then move forward setting up a place and time to record backing tracks & voice. An example of something I've co produced where I performed the bass, mandolin, and performed/recorded the snare drum as well as mixed the song can be found on this page, and is the last song in the audio playlist bellow, the song just before the videos. Zoom is my preferred way of working on all the pre production planning.

2) Second ongoing project in greater detail:

Classic pop hits cover band to form or be asked to sit in with on jam night. Current songs I'm working on that are compatible with my voice. I will also be performing the solo, acoustic and mandolin when needed on each song. The following list was the beginning, and has expanded to include 50+ of the top hits sang by a male voice from the 1960's to the present.

Eddie Rabbitt - I Love A Rainy Night

Steve Earle - The Galway Girl

Steve Earle - Copperhead Road

Climax Blues Band - Couldn't Get It Right

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop The Rain

Atlanta Rhythm Section - So Into You

Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You

Hal Ketchum - Small Town Saturday Night

Glen Campbell - Southern Nights

I lost my day job about 1 month ago, and have time to ramp up a live performance set/show. Zoom is my preferred way of working on all the pre production planning

3) Third ongoing music project:

Producer and/or engineer for studio recordings: Working with bands and/or individuals to improve their sound, song writing, style. I can do as little as advise on things that are missing in the sound, arrangement, performances, or grove. I can get as intense as performing all backing tracks, and recording/coaching the lead vocalist on what recording takes are the best, and if the vocalist is off pitch. I can, if needed, utilize my vocal pitch correction plugins to correct some pitch issues, but you really need to have 90% good pitch for the pitch correction to go unnoticed. Zoom is my preferred way of working on all the pre production planning.

4) What project do you have underway? Do you think I might have the skills to fit into your project in a way I may have not listed above? My text number is at the top, lets talk/chat/zoom about what you've got going on.

Main life events I've experienced involving music, where I've managed to accumulate a lifetime of musical production skills in the process.

1976 – 1981 It was all through middle school & high school that I would learn to play guitar by ear. I played in a cover band and we would do shows around the Portland area. It was during my senior year in HS that I was asked to join the HS jazz band. I joined as a bass player (what they needed) but when they found out I could play guitar, I was given a guitar solo to preform "No More Blues" ... a solo I memorized note for note over a week end.

1981 Lead guitarist and band director of Crysys. Band won songwriting contest for local KGON radio station with song “My Desire” … group also released “Crysys Hard as Rock” This album continues to be a collector's item of US independent metal/rock. It was as a result of my disappointment with this recording that I made a promise with myself that I would learn to be a producer/engineer. The cover songs performed while in Crysys, and performed with note for note solos: Michael Shanker "Armed and Ready" Ozzy "Over the Mountain" ... I made it a point to perform the cover songs as close as possible to the original recording.

1981 – 1983 Performed with Crysys around the northwest. The high point was warming up for Yesterday and Today (Y&T) in Salena's California. We were a three piece during this show, and I played both lead guitar and sang most of the vocals. You can see me back stage at the Y&T concert, with my black Less Paul in hand.

Parallel to performing with Crysys, I was doing all the audio engineering for our shows, as well as drum tunning, guitar/bass strobe tunning. I would also record our group on a Tascam 4 track, as well as several local bands. My interest in becoming a recording engineer/producer was achieved when doing my own home recordings with Crysys. These early recordings would eventually reach the desk of an MTV producer who agreed to produce Crysys. This deal fail apart when the drummer, the poor communicator he was, spoke harshly to the producer, destroying the tie our manager had worked so carefully to initiate. It was this reckless stunt (as well as others done by the drummer) that made me leave the group. I put 7 years into this band only to have my dreams destroyed by reckless words. It was at this point that I departed the group.

1988 Bass player for a local band. This was a cover band that would utilize much of the PA equipment that I used while in Crysys. I was with this group for about 4 months. The band abruptly ended, and before I could go back to the last club we played at to pick up my gear, the band leader, along with the drummer loaded my gear up with theirs, telling me they had it at their place. I would latter contact them to go get my things, and they acted like they knew nothing about it. They basically made away with 5k in equipment, including the black and gold Gibson Less Paul that I used all the years while with Crysys.

It was the loss of 5k in gear, along with the earlier reckless words spoken by a drummer, destroying a critical connection to what would have launched my music carrier that had a profound influence on my will to try at that point. I had no interest in playing music for several years after the above two tragedies. Although, the knowledge I gained in how to produce, engineer & become highly skilled at the guitar would remain as a part of my skill set going forward.

It was at the age of 28 that I joined up with a cover band, playing lead guitar. The gear used at this stage was: Kramer American Supper Strat, Music man 2 x 10 amp with 4 x 12 anvil style cabinet. The effects unit was the Rolland GP8. It was the first programable unit using the same circuitry as in the 8 stomp boxes made by Rolland. Cover songs performed during this era were NXS "Devil Inside" Roxette "She's Got the Look" ... It was when a local welder came into one of the clubs we were playing at over near 217, and informed me how much money he was bringing in as a welder that I realized I'm in the wrong profession. I made $250 that week, and the welder was bringing in $700. This was the last time I would play in any band for any length of time.

I did quit the band over plagiarism issues, someone taking credit for my work, and did go on to become a welder. I worked at Gundersons for about a year.

There was a short period where a friend needed a demo recording, and I captured their band at a club utilizing a Tascam 122 cassette deck, AKG 414 mic, DBX 166 compressor, and the output from a 24 channel mixer. One side was the ambient mic, the other side was a direct mono out the board. I mixed them down at home, sending the direct recording to a single track, keeping it mono, and the ambient mic was split into two channels for R and L panning. The comments I got back from the band were that this was the best demo recording the club owner(s) have ever heard.

1991 At 29 years of age: I went from welder to college student, and put my focus on improving my educational skills. I put a great deal of attention on AutoCAD. It was version 11 at that time, and I took all course work at two community colleges MHCC and Clackamas CC. It was at Clackamas that I wrote an AutoLISP routine that could covert a 2D topographical map to a 3D topographical map by selecting the contour lines and hitting the enter key. I kept up a near 4.0GPA, and was mainly in the Civil Engineering Tech. program.

2000 - 2005 This was the period of time when I began recording home guitar projects where I would rip the CD instrumental tracks into a DAW & play solo guitar parts on adjacent tracks. The track at the top of this page, "Lord of the Dance" was one of the tracks I would remix guitar with. This experience got me acclimated to the digital computer recording format. Before this time I had done all recordings on magnetic tape. I plan to upload some of the guitar instrumental recordings I completed during this period of time.

2009

If you look at the uploaded photos, you can see me next to a lap top. This laptop was given to me by OurStage as a thank you for all the work I did for them. I gave advice for songwriters on how to improve their songwriting & recordings.

2011-2014

Was asked if I wanted to run live sound for a local Christan church. This experience helped me to keep my live sound and recording skills sharp. I ran an Allen & Heath GL2400 console, and two Focusrite 8 channel interfaces that capture 16 multi-tracks each week, into a Lenovo lap top. It was three years of setting this system up each Sunday, doing the live mix and then taking the 16 multi-tracks back home to mix. It was also during this time that I began to purchase waves plugins that included vocal tunning. I'm proficient with most of the waves plugins & vocal tunning techniques, although I prefer the Melodyne vocal tunning app (what top recording engineers use today).

2021

Worked with local Christian church to help them improve their live sound as well as improve their live stream mix. I programmed their Behringer X32 digital mixer during this time.

2022

Currently a member of an audio production web page where I've been selected to be on the top coaches' page, where I give feedback on producing, songwriting and mixing.
