Journey To Dune
Journey To DuneI hope this takes you on a sonic journey to a spicy planet. Started from 2 ambient sources - a perpetual Reaktor ensemble and a field recording from a local restaurant. The bass and lead synth were played live (comped).
WatchingThis is the score to accompany 8Dio's Score This: Constellations contest. The challenge was to (at least) use their Supercluster library to score the video they provided. I also played bass guitar a little on this. Here is the video link: https://youtu.be/KcWh2J-P8m0
AwakeningThis is my entry into an online scoring competition. 8Dio challenged composers to use only one of their sampled instruments to score a short video. I chose an economical instrument named "Wrenchenspiel" (this is a homemade instrument like a xylophone made from open and closed end wrenches). This instrument only has a few articulations so it was a challenge. Their were a lot of firsts for me: first time writing to video, first time exporting a scored video (this took an afternoon to get right) and the first time posting to YouTube. I would very much like to hear anyone's feedback and advice. It's OK, I have a thick skin. 8DIO Library used: Wrenchenspiel Patch/Articulations used: Wrenmirror, Wrenchennail, Whrhodes, Wrhammond As you can hear I used a lot of echo and delay processing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OiX8byMXk4&t=3s
Walking To Morocco
Walking To MoroccoAn evocative song that hopefully takes the listener on a journey to a faraway, exotic place.
Dateline TokyoWritten a long time ago (~1989) as an idea for a Television theme song
Lost In Desolation
Lost In DesolationA dark track created from an experiment with drum/bass pattern software (Native Instruments' TRK-01). Maybe not what the software developers had in mind... Me on the Les Paul Custom.
Feel ItChallenge from Native Instruments to use their new TRK-01 software to create a sketch. The software demo only lasts 30 min. (not much time when learning what everything does). I chopped my sketch into logical sequences (to me) and started adding loops and transitions. This is what I came up with. Creation, mixing and finalizing in 24 hours.
Mazanheer Thullikal Minu
Mazanheer Thullikal MinuI took a 5 yr. old recording from a single 1 take session of a practice in the basement of a friend's house with guitar, bass, idekkya (Indian hand drum)and vocals; then embellished and mastered it. Added sampled backing vocals, percussion, sampled flute and sampled dilruba.
The Road To Shangri - La
The Road To Shangri - LaThis started with a 'regrooved' percussion track and grew from there. Guitar by my good friend Brian Nutwell.
Return To The Shire
Return To The ShireI wrote this for a songwriting competition that ends 3/28/2018. If you like it, vote for it at: https://apps.facebook.com/whcontests/hollywood-choirs-demo-contest
Satan's Funeral10/24/17 - all instruments. Submitted for a competition to write a scary song using at least 4 of the patches submitted for the Plugin Guru's BOOOO! library for Omnisphere. I used: BPM BELL - Halloween Bells. This got me started. I laid down a bed of 3 notes repeating every beat all the way through before I wrote anything else. Lots of mod wheel action! FX - Moon Howl. Laid down next for atmosphere. Again, lots of mod wheel. BASS - FlubberGhosted. Bass played around the three bell notes. Again, lots of mod wheel. CHORD - Haunted Organ. I started with wide variations of the mod wheel, but soon learned that the organ bottom range was too shrill, so I stayed in the “demon choir” range and varied within that. TEXT - Spawn Chorus C3. This added interesting background sounds - kind of like birds or crickets from hell. FX - Tension Riser. For the ‘ritual' in the middle. VOICE - GellGellGell. For the ‘ritual' in the middle. FX - Worlds Most Evil Laugh. For the ‘ritual’. NOISE - Enormous Breathers. For the final breath at the end. Added guitar for some 'live' feel.

09 History1995 - all instruments. A concept piece about a space traveling race that "seeds" the third wet globe from a light fire they have visited and how the seeds grow to create early music.
Persia (All Keyboard Mix) Lisbon Nights
Persia (All Keyboard Mix) Lisbon NightsPersia is another tune from the late 80's. The guitar overdubbed version of this was used as background music for an instructional video at work. This version is me taking solos on keyboard. Again, I was merging various song ideas into a single flow. Lisbon Nights was conceived as a TV theme song.
The Workday a) Rise And Shine, b) The A.M., c) The P. M., d) Home
The Workday a) Rise And Shine, b) The A.M., c) The P. M., d) HomeThis was recorded in the late 80's at home. The image was to merge 4 song ideas together into a cohesive single track. Also, obviously - based on the title, represent a busy day at work and the return home.
