ABOUT

I have been playing music and writing my own songs for about eleven years now; the style has seen several transformations, but I always keep coming back to Antifolk/indie rock (and I mean that in the way it was meant to be, not the term as it currently stands, after being hijacked by the emo kids who were tired of the stigma attached to their titles and so stole the term "indie" without truly understanding its meaning or purpose).

I recently moved to Seattle after living in Germany for three years. In that time I wrote many, many songs, and now that I am here, I have a strong desire to see them performed. I currently have a drummer, a lead guitarist, potentially a banjo player, and a practice space. I'm hoping to be playing shows in the next two months, but I suppose that depends on the expediency with which I find a bassist and keyboardist.

I like to think of myself as a relatively laid back sort of fellow (despite my apparently strong feeling about the demise of the term "indie"); I like, and can get along with, pretty much anybody, and I would like to play music with someone who feels approximately the same way about life. Being part of a band should be fun, not strictly a business arrangement, but rather a friendship amongst like-minded peers.

Lastly, although I haven't played many shows in the last three years; that doesn't mean I am inexperienced. Before I left, I fronted a band that played regularly in our area. What I am hoping for in a potential bandmate would be someone between 19 and 35, not because age has anything to do with it, but rather that life priorities change over time, I am very well aware of this, and persons younger or older than this would probably be in a different place in their life and what they want from the music, that's all. Someone nice, with their own style to bring to the music, preferably with a good sense of humor, and I wouldn't mind female back up vocal, but that isn't mandatory by any means.

Influences

Flogging Molly, Gogol Bordello, The Clash, Violent Femmes (particularly their bass), The Unicorns, Dr. Dog, The Shaky Hands, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Decemberists, Dent May and his Magnificent Ukelele, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, Jens Lekman, and the list goes on.

I love many different styles of music, and they all usually find their way into my songs at one point or another. Essentially, it is upbeat sounding music, with terribly dark, angry, or morbid lyrics. (Although not all the songs are mean.)
